AIIMS New Delhi, IRPGIMSR Sign MoU to Strengthen Railway Medical Education

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and the Indian Railway Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (IRPGIMSR), along with Northern Railway Central Hospital (NRCH), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen medical education, professional training and patient care.
The agreement, signed on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, seeks to bring together the medical expertise, institutional capabilities and resources of the two leading healthcare institutions. The collaboration will focus on training, skill development and technology transfer, with the objective of enhancing the quality of medical education and healthcare services.
AIIMS New Delhi is the country’s apex medical teaching, training and healthcare institution. IRPGIMSR, along with its associated Northern Railway Central Hospital, is the first and only National Medical Commission (NMC)-recognised apex teaching institute within the Indian Railways healthcare system.
The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for knowledge sharing and professional development among medical professionals. Doctors associated with the Railway healthcare system will be able to benefit from the expertise and advanced capabilities available at AIIMS, helping them strengthen their clinical and technical skills.
The MoU will also support better training and teaching for medical students and healthcare professionals. By facilitating interaction between specialists and institutions, the collaboration is expected to promote the exchange of knowledge, clinical practices and technological expertise.
A key feature of the agreement is the emphasis on optimal utilisation of existing resources and expertise. The two institutions will be able to leverage their respective infrastructure, medical capabilities and human resources to support common objectives without creating any financial burden on either institution.
The collaboration is also expected to have a direct impact on patient care. Enhanced training and exposure for doctors can contribute to improved diagnosis, treatment and clinical practices, ultimately benefiting patients and beneficiaries of the Railway healthcare system.
For Indian Railways, the partnership represents an important step towards strengthening its specialised healthcare and medical education ecosystem. The association with AIIMS is expected to provide Railway medical professionals with access to advanced knowledge, skills and emerging healthcare technologies.
The initiative also reflects the growing importance of institutional collaboration in improving healthcare delivery and medical education. By combining the academic and clinical strengths of AIIMS with the experience and healthcare network of IRPGIMSR and NRCH, the MoU aims to create a framework for sustained cooperation.
The collaboration between the two institutions is expected to benefit not only doctors and medical students but also patients who rely on the Railway healthcare system. Through structured training, technology transfer and knowledge exchange, the partnership seeks to contribute to higher standards of medical education, professional development and patient care.
The agreement marks a significant development in efforts to modernise and strengthen healthcare services within Indian Railways while creating greater opportunities for collaboration with the country’s premier medical institutions.
