Rail Vikas Nigam Limited Marks 21st Annual Day, Celebrates Milestones and Team Excellence

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, celebrated its 21st Annual Day at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, highlighting over two decades of transformative contributions to India’s infrastructure sector. The event brought together senior officials, project teams, and distinguished guests to reflect on achievements and chart the roadmap ahead.
Union ministers, including Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ravneet Singh, and V. Somanna, extended their congratulations, acknowledging RVNL’s role in strengthening the country’s transport and logistics backbone.
The celebration was attended by Satish Kumar, Vivek Kumar Gupta, R. Rajagopal, and Manjusha Jain. Senior RVNL leadership, including CMD Saleem Ahmad, also addressed the gathering, outlining the organisation’s journey and future vision.

In his keynote address, Satish Kumar praised RVNL’s strong governance framework and execution capabilities, noting that the organisation has consistently delivered complex projects within challenging timelines. He highlighted that since its inception in 2003, RVNL has executed more than 17,000 km of railway infrastructure, with cumulative project costs exceeding ₹2 lakh crore. He described the company as a cornerstone of India’s rail infrastructure growth and emphasised the need for faster execution, adoption of advanced technologies, and adherence to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Among the major achievements cited was the New Pamban Bridge, India’s first vertical-lift railway sea bridge, which has emerged as a landmark engineering accomplishment. RVNL’s innovative execution models, including Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), were also highlighted as key drivers of its success. The organisation’s growing international presence in countries such as Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Rwanda further reflects its expanding global footprint.
Vivek Kumar Gupta, Member (Infrastructure), Railway Board, described RVNL’s journey from a modest beginning to a diversified infrastructure major. He noted that the organisation has expanded beyond railway engineering into metro projects, tunnelling, and other strategic infrastructure sectors. Referring to projects like the Rishikesh–Karna Prayag rail link, he termed the ongoing tunnelling work in the Himalayas as a significant engineering feat in progress.
CMD Saleem Ahmad emphasised that RVNL has evolved into a key driver of India’s capital expenditure push. He highlighted the company’s consistent financial performance, marked by steady growth in turnover and profitability. Over the past year, RVNL has made notable progress in metro projects in cities such as Kolkata, Indore, and Chennai, alongside advancements in railway doubling, electrification, and road infrastructure works.

He also underscored the company’s diversification into emerging sectors, including renewable energy, digital infrastructure through the BharatNet project, and the Vande Bharat sleeper train programme. Stressing the importance of innovation, Ahmad noted that RVNL is increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence and digital tools for project monitoring and execution, while embedding sustainability practices into its operations.
A key highlight of the celebration was the awards ceremony recognising excellence across the organisation. RVNL presented five shield awards, 14 group awards, and 24 individual honours to project implementation units (PIUs), teams, and employees for outstanding contributions across rail, metro, tunnelling, and international projects. The awards reflected the organisation’s strong culture of execution, innovation, and teamwork.
Over the years, RVNL has completed more than 157 projects, significantly enhancing railway capacity and connectivity across India. Its diversification into metro rail projects in nearly 10 cities and expansion into global markets underline its transition from a rail-focused entity to a comprehensive infrastructure company.
As RVNL enters its next phase of growth, the focus remains on accelerating project delivery, scaling operations, and supporting India’s long-term infrastructure vision. The organisation continues to play a vital role in nation-building by strengthening connectivity and facilitating economic development.
The evening concluded on a celebratory note with a special musical performance by Monali Thakur, adding a cultural touch to the milestone event.
