Rail Minister Leads Tiranga Rally at Rail Bhavan as Railways Celebrates Har Ghar Tiranga
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday led a Tiranga Rally at Rail Bhavan on the eve of Independence Day, with senior Railway Board officials participating in a collective display of patriotism, national pride and unity.
Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, Board members, Director Generals and other senior officials joined the rally organised at the Rail Bhavan complex. The event marked the participation of Indian Railways in the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The celebrations at Rail Bhavan have been organised with a focus on patriotism, national unity and India’s cultural heritage. The campaign has also been integrated with the third phase of celebrations marking 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’, with a series of programmes being organised to highlight the historic, cultural and national significance of the iconic national song.
The Tiranga rally formed the centrepiece of the Independence Day-eve celebrations at Rail Bhavan. The participation of senior railway officials underscored the message of national unity and collective responsibility associated with the national flag.
Celebrating 150 Years of Vande Mataram
As part of the celebrations, a quiz competition titled ‘150 Years Journey of Vande Mataram’ was organised at Rail Bhavan on August 10. The programme provided railway officials an opportunity to explore the history, evolution and enduring legacy of the national song.
The initiative was aimed at familiarising employees with the historical significance of ‘Vande Mataram’ and its role in India’s national movement and cultural identity.
On August 11, Rail Bhavan hosted a special cultural programme based on the theme ‘Patriotic Songs’. Railway officials and employees participated enthusiastically in the programme, using musical performances to celebrate the spirit of patriotism and national pride.
As part of the celebrations on August 14, a collective singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ was also organised at Rail Bhavan.
Passenger Facilities Reviewed Ahead of Festive Rush
The Independence Day-eve celebrations coincided with a review by Ashwini Vaishnaw of passenger holding area projects at Anand Vihar Terminal and Udhna Railway Station.
From Rail Bhavan, the Railway Minister reviewed the progress of the two projects, focusing on expediting construction, resolving site-related challenges and ensuring that the facilities are completed ahead of the upcoming festive rush.
Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna also attended the review meeting.
The passenger holding areas are being developed to provide dedicated waiting spaces for passengers, particularly those waiting before entering crowded station and platform areas. The facilities are expected to help reduce congestion at station entrances, circulating areas and platforms during peak travel periods.
At Anand Vihar Terminal, the passenger holding facility is being developed in two phases. The first phase is planned to provide organised space for around 4,000 passengers, with foundation, plinth beam, structural steel and other associated works progressing rapidly. After completion of the second phase, the facility is expected to accommodate around 7,000 passengers.
At Udhna Railway Station, the passenger holding area is planned to accommodate approximately 15,000 passengers at a time. The facility will also provide improved connectivity between the holding area and platforms, enabling more systematic passenger movement.
The centres will include covered waiting areas and seating, separate ticket counters, toilets and washrooms, drinking water facilities, public address and passenger information systems, CCTV surveillance, security arrangements, lighting, display boards, signages and other passenger amenities.
The facilities are being prioritised ahead of the major festive season to strengthen crowd management and ensure safer and more organised movement of passengers.
Patriotism and Modern Railway Infrastructure
The celebrations at Rail Bhavan combined national observances with ongoing efforts to strengthen passenger infrastructure across the railway network.
Through the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and the programmes marking 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’, Indian Railways is seeking to reinforce patriotism, national pride and unity among its officers and employees.
The Tiranga rally, cultural programmes, collective singing and other activities reflect the Railways’ participation in celebrating India’s national heritage while reinforcing a sense of collective responsibility among its workforce.
At the same time, projects such as passenger holding areas at Anand Vihar and Udhna demonstrate the organisation’s focus on improving infrastructure and passenger experience.
Together, the initiatives highlight Indian Railways’ dual emphasis on national pride and service delivery, with celebrations of India’s heritage being accompanied by efforts to create safer, more organised and passenger-friendly railway facilities.
