Northern Railway GM Reviews Station Redevelopment Projects, Inspects Amritsar–Jalandhar Cantt–Ludhiana Rail Corridor

Northern Railway General Manager Rajesh Kumar Pandey conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Amritsar–Jalandhar Cantt–Ludhiana rail section on Friday, reviewing ongoing station redevelopment projects, railway infrastructure, passenger amenities, safety standards, and operational efficiency across one of the region’s important railway corridors.

The inspection began with a detailed footplate inspection using an inspection car, during which the General Manager closely examined the railway track, overhead electrification (OHE), railway yards, and signalling systems throughout the block section. He reviewed the condition of critical railway infrastructure and assessed safety measures and operational arrangements to ensure the smooth and secure movement of train services.

As part of the inspection, the General Manager visited several railway stations along the route and evaluated passenger amenities, cleanliness, safety arrangements, and the overall quality of railway operations. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of passenger service while ensuring operational reliability and infrastructure readiness.

At Amritsar Railway Station, Rajesh Kumar Pandey reviewed the progress of the ongoing station redevelopment works. He inspected various passenger facilities and assessed the pace and quality of construction activities being carried out under the redevelopment project. During the visit, he directed officials to promote digital transactions across the station to enhance passenger convenience and improve transparency in service delivery. He stressed that digital payment systems should be encouraged across ticketing and commercial services to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers.

The General Manager also carried out a detailed inspection of the redevelopment works at Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station, where major infrastructure upgrades are underway. He reviewed the construction of new station buildings on both sides of the station, a spacious passenger concourse, cafeteria facilities, parking areas, upgraded platforms, lifts, escalators, and foot-over bridges designed to provide world-class passenger amenities.

In addition, he inspected the waiting halls, booking office, reservation office, circulating area, and several other passenger facilities. The review focused on ensuring that the redevelopment works meet modern standards of accessibility, comfort, and convenience while significantly improving the overall passenger experience at the station.

Later, the General Manager visited Ludhiana Railway Station, where he assessed the progress of the ongoing redevelopment project. He inspected various passenger amenities available at the station and reviewed the status of construction works in detail. During the inspection, he interacted with officials and issued necessary directions to ensure timely execution of the project while maintaining quality standards. He also emphasized the need for close monitoring of ongoing works so that the upgraded station infrastructure can be delivered without unnecessary delays.

Throughout the inspection, Rajesh Kumar Pandey underlined the importance of providing safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly railway services. He appreciated the efforts of railway officers and staff engaged in infrastructure development and daily operations and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in service delivery.

The inspection was attended by Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar, senior officers of Northern Railway, and officials from various departments associated with the projects. They accompanied the General Manager during the inspection and briefed him on the progress of ongoing works, operational challenges, and future development plans.

Following the field inspection, the General Manager held a review meeting with senior officials to discuss the progress of various infrastructure and redevelopment projects across the rail section. He instructed officers to closely monitor all ongoing works and ensure that every project is completed within the stipulated timelines without compromising on quality or safety.

Reiterating Northern Railway’s commitment to modernising railway infrastructure, Rajesh Kumar Pandey emphasized that station redevelopment, enhanced passenger amenities, improved safety standards, and efficient railway operations remain key priorities. He said that the objective is to provide passengers with safer, more comfortable, and seamless rail travel while strengthening the overall operational capability of the railway network.
