Northern Railway Announces Diversions of Eight Trains on December 4 Due to Ghaziabad Yard Traffic Block
Northern Railway has announced the diversion of eight trains on December 4, 2026, due to a 7.30-hour traffic block at Ghaziabad yard under Delhi Division. The block has been planned to facilitate major track and signalling works, including replacement of switches, glued joints, rails, crossings, approaching rails and S&T machine sleepers at points 328A/331B.
The engineering and signalling work is aimed at replacing existing 52 KG components with 60 KG full-set switches and carrying out associated track and signalling maintenance. During the block, several trains operating between Delhi, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Roorkee and Uttarakhand will be routed through alternative lines.
As a result, passengers travelling on the affected trains may experience changes in routes and scheduled stoppages. Northern Railway has advised passengers to check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) or contact railway helpline 139 before undertaking their journey.

Major engineering and signalling work at Ghaziabad
According to Northern Railway, the traffic block has been necessitated by extensive work involving point and crossing infrastructure in Ghaziabad yard. The work includes replacement of the existing 52 KG components with 60 KG full-set switches, along with glued joints, rails, crossings and rails on both approaches.
The railway will also replace S&T machine sleepers associated with both points and undertake complete fitness work and signalling and telecommunications machine-related activities at D/Slip Point No. 328A/331B.
Because these works require the affected section to be blocked for approximately 7.30 hours, trains normally using the Ghaziabad–Meerut route will be diverted through the Delhi Shahdara–Noli–Shamli–Tapri corridor or the reverse route, depending on their direction of travel.
Impact on passengers
Several trains will bypass important stations on the Delhi–Meerut–Muzaffarnagar corridor. The number of skipped stations varies by train, with some services bypassing only one or a few stations while others will skip a longer list of stations.
Passengers booked to board or alight at Ghaziabad, Meerut City, Muzaffarnagar, Modinagar, Deoband and other affected stations should particularly verify their train’s revised route and stoppages before travelling.
Train 19031 Sabarmati BG–Yog Nagari Rishikesh, for example, will bypass a large number of stations, including Ghaziabad, Modinagar, Meerut City, Meerut Cantt, Sakoti Tanda, Muzaffarnagar and Deoband. Similarly, 18238 Amritsar–Bilaspur will skip several stations between Tapri and Hazrat Nizamuddin.
Alternate routing through Delhi Shahdara and Shamli
A key feature of the diversion plan is the use of the Delhi Shahdara–Noli–Shamli–Tapri route. Trains approaching Delhi from the Meerut side will be routed through Delhi Shahdara and Tilak Bridge towards Hazrat Nizamuddin, while trains travelling towards Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh will use the corresponding reverse route.
The diversions are temporary and specifically linked to the engineering block scheduled for December 4.
