IRCTC Unveils Revamped Golden Chariot Luxury Train for 2026–27 Season
Upgraded interiors, luxury amenities, South India itineraries and special discounts announced for premium rail travellers across Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the tourism arm of Indian Railways under the Ministry of Railways, has unveiled the revamped edition of the luxurious Golden Chariot train for the 2026–27 tourist season. The upgraded luxury train promises a blend of royal heritage, modern comfort, and curated travel experiences across some of South India’s most iconic destinations.
Known as one of India’s premier luxury trains, the Golden Chariot has been redesigned with refreshed interiors, upgraded hospitality services, and enhanced onboard amenities aimed at attracting both domestic and international travellers. IRCTC officials said the latest version of the train combines the elegance of traditional Indian rail journeys with contemporary luxury standards.
The train now features hand-picked upholstery, polished wooden interiors, upgraded lighting, plush bedding, and premium bath amenities designed to create a refined travel experience. Cabins are equipped with Smart TVs and Wi-Fi streaming facilities, allowing passengers to enjoy entertainment and connectivity throughout the journey. Safety systems have also been modernised with CCTV surveillance and advanced fire-alarm mechanisms installed across the train.
The Golden Chariot can accommodate up to 80 guests in 40 elegantly designed cabins. The accommodation includes 13 double-bed cabins, 26 twin-bed cabins, and one specially designed cabin for differently abled passengers. According to IRCTC, the train has been upgraded to ensure comfort while maintaining the heritage-inspired aesthetic that has made the Golden Chariot popular among luxury travellers.
Dining remains one of the key highlights of the luxury train. Passengers will have access to two fine-dining restaurants, Ruchi and Nalapaka, which serve a range of Indian and international cuisines using premium crockery and linen service. The onboard lounge bar, Madira, offers a curated selection of beverages in a relaxed setting for guests looking to unwind during the journey.
For wellness and recreation, the train also includes the Arogya Spa and Fitness Centre. The onboard spa offers Ayurvedic therapies and wellness treatments designed to help passengers relax during long-distance travel. A compact gymnasium equipped with modern fitness equipment has also been added for health-conscious travellers.
IRCTC has announced three major itineraries for the 2026–27 season, covering several historical, cultural, wildlife, and coastal destinations across South India.
The flagship “Pride of Karnataka” itinerary is a six-day, five-night journey that covers Bengaluru, Bandipur, Mysuru, Halebidu, Chikkamagaluru, Hampi, Goa, and back to Bengaluru. The route combines wildlife tourism, heritage monuments, coffee landscapes, and coastal experiences.
Another itinerary, “Jewels of South,” also spans six days and includes Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kanchipuram, Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur, Chettinad, Cochin, and Chertala. This route is designed to showcase South India’s rich temple architecture, coastal culture, and historic towns.
For travellers seeking a shorter luxury rail vacation, IRCTC has introduced “Glimpses of Karnataka,” a four-day itinerary connecting Bengaluru, Bandipur, Mysuru, Hampi, and Bengaluru.
IRCTC stated that all itineraries are designed to balance sightseeing with onboard leisure, giving passengers enough time to relax while exploring South India’s major tourist attractions.
To boost bookings for the upcoming season, IRCTC has introduced special promotional offers for select departures. Passengers of all nationalities can avail a 20 percent discount on the published tariff, including supplement charges, subject to cabin availability. The offer will remain valid until the departure date of the selected journeys.
Additionally, travellers who complete advance payments on or before June 30, 2026, will receive an extra 5 percent Early Bird discount. This additional benefit can be combined with the 20 percent promotional offer, making the packages more attractive for early bookings.
The luxury travel package includes all onboard meals, selected beverages, guided sightseeing tours in air-conditioned vehicles, monument entry fees, and meals at designated outside venues mentioned in the itinerary. IRCTC said the all-inclusive structure is intended to provide a seamless and premium travel experience for guests.
The promotional offer will apply to selected departures, including Pride of Karnataka departures on October 24 and December 26, 2026, January 2 and January 30, 2027, February 27, 2027, and March 13, 2027. The Glimpses of Karnataka itinerary will operate under the offer on October 31 and December 19, 2026, and February 6, 2027, while the Jewels of South itinerary is scheduled for February 20, 2027.
With the relaunch of the upgraded Golden Chariot, IRCTC aims to strengthen India’s luxury rail tourism sector and position South India as a premium global travel destination.
