UIDAI Launches Free Aadhaar Email Update Service via Mobile App; Over 2.5 Lakh Users Benefit in Two Days

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a free facility allowing residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre. The service became effective on July 1, 2026, and will remain free for six months.
According to UIDAI, more than 2.5 lakh residents updated their email addresses within the first two days of the service launch, reflecting strong public response.
Linking an email ID with Aadhaar enables users to receive real-time notifications whenever their Aadhaar authentication is used, enhancing transparency and strengthening security against unauthorized usage.
The Aadhaar App also allows users to update their mobile number and address from their smartphones. UIDAI said over 40 lakh mobile number updates and nearly 10 lakh address updates have already been completed through the app.
Available on both Android and iOS platforms, the Aadhaar App is part of the government’s Digital India initiative aimed at improving citizen services and promoting ease of living.
