Centre Announces Major Reforms to Boost Indian Film Industry and Cinema Infrastructure
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced two major initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s film industry and expanding cinema infrastructure across the country. The decisions were taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi.
The Ministry has constituted a high-level Study Group headed by renowned lyricist Prasoon Joshi to examine opportunities and challenges facing Indian cinema, including global competitiveness, the impact of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and virtual production, and new financing options for filmmakers.
Additionally, the Ministry has prepared Model State Cinema Regulations and circulated them to all states to simplify rules governing cinema halls and theatres, particularly in small towns and rural areas. The Centre said these measures will help build a modern, globally competitive and technologically advanced Indian film industry.
