Railways Diverts, Regulates and Short-Terminates Several Trains Due to Kurukshetra Yard Block for Elevated Rail Line Construction

Indian Railways has announced the diversion, regulation, short-termination and short-origination of several passenger and express trains owing to a major traffic and power block at Kurukshetra Junction Yard. The operational changes are being implemented to facilitate the construction of an elevated broad gauge (BG) railway line between Kurukshetra Junction and Pehowa Road stations under the Delhi Division.

According to railway officials, an 11-hour power and traffic block has been scheduled on July 9, 2026, to carry out critical infrastructure work. The project forms part of the ongoing efforts to modernise railway infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and enhance safety by constructing an elevated railway line in the section.

As a result of the engineering work, several train services operating through the Kurukshetra route will either be diverted, regulated or partially cancelled for one or two days.

Gandhinagar Capital–Daulatpur Chowk Express Diverted

Train No. 19411 Gandhinagar Capital–Daulatpur Chowk Express, scheduled to commence its journey on July 9, 2026, will be diverted to operate via Rohtak–Panipat–Kurukshetra instead of its regular route.

Due to the diversion, the train will not halt at its scheduled stations of Julana, Jind, Uchana, Narwana and Kaithal. Passengers travelling to or from these stations have been advised to make alternative travel arrangements.

Express Trains to Face Brief Delays

The block will also affect the punctuality of some long-distance trains.

Train No. 11906 Hoshiarpur–Agra Cantt Express will be regulated for 35 minutes at Dhoda Khedi on July 9.

Similarly, Train No. 12446 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–New Delhi Uttar Sampark Kranti Express will be detained for 30 minutes at Dhoda Khedi on the same day to facilitate smooth train operations during the engineering work.

Several Passenger Trains to be Short-Terminated

Railways has also announced temporary short-termination and short-origination of multiple passenger services operating in the affected section.

Train No. 14023 Delhi–Narwana–Kurukshetra Express, departing on July 9, will terminate its journey at Narwana instead of Kurukshetra.

Its return service, Train No. 14024 Kurukshetra–Narwana–Delhi Express, scheduled for July 10, will originate from Narwana, skipping the Kurukshetra–Narwana section.

Similarly, Train No. 64564 Amb Andaura–Raipur Haryana Junction Passenger, running on July 9, will terminate at Ambala Cantonment.

The corresponding return service, Train No. 64563 Raipur Haryana Junction–Amb Andaura Passenger, scheduled on July 10, will commence from Ambala Cantonment instead of Raipur Haryana Junction.

Local Passenger Services Also Affected

Several local passenger trains in Haryana will also witness partial cancellation due to the yard block.

Train No. 54040 Jind–Kurukshetra Passenger will terminate at Kaithal on July 10, while Train No. 54041 Kurukshetra–Jind Passenger will originate from Kaithal, leaving the Kurukshetra–Kaithal section temporarily without service.

In another operational adjustment, Train No. 54038 Jind–Kurukshetra Passenger will terminate at Pehowa Road on July 10.

Likewise, Train No. 54037 Kurukshetra–Jind Passenger will commence its journey from Pehowa Road, instead of Kurukshetra.

Infrastructure Upgrade Underway

Railway officials stated that the temporary inconvenience is necessary for the execution of a key infrastructure project involving the construction of an elevated broad gauge railway line between Kurukshetra Junction and Pehowa Road. The project is expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce congestion and enhance safety on one of the important rail corridors under the Delhi Division.

Passengers travelling on the affected routes have been advised to check the latest train status before commencing their journey and cooperate with railway authorities during the period of the traffic block.

The Railways has assured that normal train operations will be restored after the completion of the scheduled engineering work and has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers while emphasizing that the project will deliver long-term benefits to railway operations and passenger services.
