GSV and Tata Electronics Partner to Develop Semiconductor Talent
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) and Tata Electronics have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support India’s expanding semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem through industry-linked education, research and training.
The collaboration will focus on areas required for semiconductor facilities and their supporting infrastructure, including facility engineering, infrastructure systems, project management, logistics and supply chain management.
Under the partnership, the two organizations will work on academic curriculum development, joint certification programs and industry-oriented initiatives. Tata Electronics’ partners L&T EduTech and Jacobs Solutions will contribute subject-matter expertise to the proposed programs.
The initiatives are expected to give students and professionals greater exposure to the requirements of semiconductor fabrication facilities, or fabs, covering construction, engineering, project execution, operations and supply-chain management.
Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, said semiconductor fabs are among the world’s most sophisticated industrial facilities, requiring expertise across engineering, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing and supply chains. He said the partnership with GSV would help develop capabilities aligned with the requirements of India’s emerging semiconductor industry.
Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, said the collaboration would expand the university’s academic and research activities into semiconductor and emerging infrastructure domains. He added that it would provide students with greater industry exposure and specialized learning opportunities.
The partnership comes as Tata Electronics expands its presence across the semiconductor value chain. The company is establishing a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, with an investment of US$11 billion. The facility is planned to serve sectors including automotive, mobile devices, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, aerospace and defence.
Semiconductor fabs require extensive supporting infrastructure in addition to chip-manufacturing capabilities. Their development involves complex engineering systems, construction, project management, logistics and supply chains, making interdisciplinary education important for the sector.
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament with a mandate covering transportation and logistics education, research, executive training and professional development. Its interdisciplinary programs are aligned with industry requirements and supported by advanced technologies and infrastructure associated with Indian Railways’ Centralized Training Institutes.
Tata Electronics, established in 2020 as a greenfield venture of the Tata Group, operates across electronics manufacturing services, semiconductor assembly and testing, semiconductor foundry and design services. Its Indian operations span Gujarat, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with overseas offices in the United States, Taiwan and Singapore.
The MoU strengthens industry-academia collaboration in a strategically important technology sector and connects GSV’s infrastructure and logistics expertise with Tata Electronics’ semiconductor manufacturing experience.
