North Central Railway Digitises Over 4 Crore Records, Disposes of 200 Tonnes of Paper

North Central Railway (NCR) is accelerating its digitisation drive to improve administrative efficiency, enhance transparency and promote paperless working across its offices. The zone has digitised more than 4 crore records, marking a significant step towards modernising railway administration and reducing dependence on physical documents.
North Central Railway General Manager Naresh Pal Singh released a documentary highlighting the achievements and importance of the record digitisation programme. Divisional Railway Managers from various divisions and senior railway officials attended the event.
The documentary showcased initiatives aimed at establishing a digital work culture, ensuring the safe and systematic preservation of official records, and promoting the effective use of technology in routine administrative operations.
As part of the ongoing special cleanliness drive across the zone, approximately 200 metric tonnes of paper have been disposed of. The disposal of old records has also helped free up around 25,000 square feet of office space, enabling more efficient utilisation of available infrastructure.
To support the preservation of digitised documents, North Central Railway has developed a digital storage capacity exceeding 58 terabytes. Digitisation is making it easier for railway officials to access essential records, reducing the time and effort required for document retrieval and maintenance.
During the programme, General Manager Naresh Pal Singh appreciated the efforts of officials and staff involved in the digitisation initiative. He directed the concerned departments to continue the process systematically and progressively digitise the remaining records.
He also emphasised the wider adoption of digital tools in office operations to strengthen the transition towards a paperless working environment.
The initiative is expected to contribute to improved administrative efficiency, better utilisation of office space, and more systematic record management. By reducing the dependence on physical files and paper-based processes, North Central Railway is also supporting environmentally sustainable working practices.
The digitisation drive reflects the zone’s broader efforts to integrate technology into railway administration, streamline official procedures and create a more efficient, transparent and resource-conscious working environment.
