Northern Railway Cancels Several Trains for Major Signalling and Track Upgrade Work

Services on Delhi–Ambala–Kurukshetra routes to remain affected till June 6 as Northern Railway undertakes loop line extension and Electronic Interlocking modernization at Shahbad Markanda and Mohri stations

Northern Railway has announced the temporary cancellation, short-termination, diversion, rescheduling, and regulation of several passenger trains due to major infrastructure works being carried out on the Delhi Division. The railway administration said the changes are necessary to facilitate power and traffic blocks linked to the extension of loop lines and installation of a new Electronic Interlocking (EI) panel at Shahbad Markanda and Mohri railway stations.

According to an official press release issued by the Public Relations Office of Northern Railway in New Delhi on May 22, 2026, the operational restrictions will remain in force for several days between May 30 and June 6, 2026. Railway officials stated that the infrastructure upgrade is aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing safety, and increasing line capacity on the busy rail corridor.

As part of the temporary arrangements, multiple MEMU and passenger train services running between Delhi, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Panipat, and Daulatpur Chowk will remain cancelled during the block period.

Train No. 14053 Delhi–Daulatpur Chowk Express will remain cancelled from May 30 to June 4, 2026, while the return service, Train No. 14054 Daulatpur Chowk–Delhi Junction Express, will also remain cancelled from May 30 to June 4, 2026.

Similarly, Train No. 64563 Delhi–Amb Andaura passenger service will remain cancelled from May 31 to June 5, 2026. The corresponding return train, Train No. 64564 Amb Andaura–Delhi service, will remain cancelled from May 30 to June 4, 2026.

Northern Railway has also announced the cancellation of Train No. 64483 Kurukshetra Junction–Ambala Cantonment Junction passenger train from May 30 to June 4, 2026. Its counterpart, Train No. 64482 Ambala Cantonment Junction–Kurukshetra Junction service, will remain cancelled from May 31 to June 5, 2026.

Another affected service is Train No. 64532 Panipat Junction–Ambala Cantonment Junction passenger train, which will remain cancelled from May 30 to June 5, 2026.

Train No. 64541 Ambala Cantonment Junction–Panipat Junction service has also been cancelled from May 31 to June 6, 2026. Additionally, Train No. 64546 Kurukshetra Junction-bound passenger train will remain cancelled from May 31 to June 6, 2026.

Railway officials said the temporary disruption is essential for carrying out crucial signalling and track infrastructure upgrades. The extension of loop lines and commissioning of the new EI panel are expected to improve train handling capacity and reduce operational bottlenecks in the section. Electronic Interlocking systems play a critical role in ensuring safer and more efficient train movement by automating signalling operations and minimizing manual intervention.

The Shahbad Markanda–Mohri section is considered an important part of the Delhi Division, which handles a large volume of passenger and freight traffic daily. Railway authorities noted that once the work is completed, passengers can expect smoother operations, better punctuality, and enhanced safety standards on the route.

Northern Railway has advised passengers to check the latest train schedules and operational updates before commencing their journey. Passengers are also requested to cooperate with railway authorities during the period of temporary disruption.

The railway administration further stated that efforts are being made to complete the infrastructure work within the scheduled timeline to minimize inconvenience to passengers. Detailed information regarding train cancellations, diversions, and revised schedules is available through official railway enquiry systems and station information counters.

The ongoing modernization work is part of Indian Railways’ broader effort to upgrade key routes with advanced signalling systems and improved track infrastructure to support faster, safer, and more reliable train operations across the network.
