Indian Army Contingent Embarks on Joint Military Exercise “Exercise Lamitiye – 2024” in Seychelles

Today, an Indian Army contingent set off for Seychelles to partake in the tenth edition of the Joint Military Exercise “Lamitiye-2024” alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). Scheduled to be held from 18th to 27th March 2024, the exercise bears the significance of fostering camaraderie, as “Lamitiye” translates to “Friendship” in the Creole language. Since its inception in 2001, this biennial training endeavor has become a hallmark of cooperation between the Indian Army and SDF.

Comprising 45 personnel each from the Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces, the exercise aims to enhance interoperability in sub-conventional operations within a semi-urban environment, aligning with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations. The exercise will not only bolster cooperation and interoperability during peacekeeping operations but also fortify bilateral military relations through the exchange of skills, experiences, and best practices.

Over the course of ten days, both sides will engage in joint training, planning, and execution of tactical drills aimed at neutralizing potential threats in semi-urban settings, while showcasing cutting-edge equipment and technology. The exercise agenda encompasses field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations, and culminates in a two-day validation exercise.

By nurturing mutual understanding and jointness among troops, Exercise Lamitiye – 2024 is poised to significantly contribute to strengthening collaborative partnerships and sharing best practices between the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces.
