Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, MP CM Mohan Yadav to Inaugurate 118-km Rail Sections in Madhya Pradesh on October 24

New Devendranagar–Churhat train service to be flagged off, boosting passenger travel, freight movement, tourism and employment opportunities
Madhya Pradesh’s Vindhya region is set to achieve a significant milestone in railway connectivity on October 24, 2026, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav scheduled to inaugurate two railway sections spanning a total of 118 kilometres. The sections include the 53-km Satna–Devendranagar rail section and the 65-km Rewa–Churhat rail section.
The two leaders will also flag off a new train service between Devendranagar and Churhat, providing an additional travel option for residents of the region. A major highlight of the development is the connection of Sidhi district to the railway network for the first time since Independence, marking an important step towards improving transport infrastructure in eastern Madhya Pradesh.
The expansion is expected to strengthen passenger transportation and freight movement while supporting industrial growth, trade, tourism and employment generation across the Vindhya region.
Railway Connectivity to Boost Regional Development
The development of the two rail sections is part of the broader effort to expand railway infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. According to the information released by the Railways, the state has been allocated a record railway budget of ₹15,188 crore for the financial year 2026–27, while railway projects worth approximately ₹1,18,379 crore are in progress across the state.
The Lalitpur–Singrauli new railway line project is particularly important for the Vindhya region. It is expected to expand the railway network and strengthen connectivity across Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli.
Once the broader project is completed, it will improve access to major industrial and transportation centres for mineral-rich areas, supporting the movement of raw materials and finished goods. Better connectivity is also expected to encourage investment in industries and generate new economic opportunities.
Satna–Devendranagar Rail Section: 53 Kilometres
The 53-km Satna–Devendranagar section, developed under the Lalitpur–Singrauli new railway line project, will improve rail connectivity for Satna, Nagod, Devendranagar and surrounding areas.
The new rail infrastructure is expected to make transportation more convenient for residents and businesses. It will also support industries based on limestone and cement manufacturing, which are important economic activities in the region.
Improved rail access can help facilitate the movement of industrial goods, strengthen local trade and improve connectivity for students, workers and business communities. The development is also expected to create opportunities for further industrial expansion and employment.
Rewa–Churhat Rail Section: 65 Kilometres
The 65-km Rewa–Churhat section is another major component of the railway expansion programme. It will extend rail connectivity towards Sidhi district, bringing the area onto the railway map for the first time since Independence, according to the official announcement.
Constructing the line through the region’s hilly terrain involved several significant engineering works, including railway bridges and tunnels. One of the notable structures on the section is a 3.33-km-long tunnel.
The new railway infrastructure is expected to improve passenger movement between Rewa and Sidhi and provide a more convenient transport option for people living in the surrounding areas.
The region also has substantial limestone and other mineral resources. Once freight operations and associated facilities are developed to meet demand, the rail corridor could support the transportation of cement, clinker and other goods, helping industries improve logistics efficiency.
New Devendranagar–Churhat Train Service
The launch of the Devendranagar–Churhat train service is expected to benefit local passengers, students, employees and traders by providing an additional rail-based travel option.
The service will improve connections between communities along the route and make travel for education, employment, business and other essential activities more convenient.
The expansion of rail connectivity is particularly significant for areas where passengers have traditionally depended on road transport. A rail service can provide an additional mode of transportation and help improve access to nearby towns and regional centres.
Tourism in Vindhya Region Expected to Benefit
The inauguration of the two railway sections is also expected to create fresh opportunities for tourism in the Vindhya region, which is home to religious, historical and natural attractions.
One of the notable destinations is the White Tiger Safari at Mukundpur. Improved railway access could make it easier for visitors to reach the region and explore its tourist attractions.
Greater tourist movement can support local businesses, hotels, transport operators and other services. This, in turn, may generate employment opportunities for local residents and encourage investment in tourism-related infrastructure.
Public Representatives to Attend Inauguration Events
The inauguration programme will include events at Churhat and Nagod railway stations, with elected representatives and other dignitaries expected to attend.
At Churhat railway station, Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, Rewa MP Janardan Mishra and Sidhi MP Rajesh Mishra are scheduled to be present, along with other public representatives and dignitaries.
At Nagod railway station, Madhya Pradesh Minister of State Pratima Bagri, Satna MP Ganesh Singh, Khajuraho MP Vishnu Dutt Sharma and Nagod MLA Nagendra Singh are expected to attend the programme.
A Major Step Towards Economic Growth
The inauguration of the Satna–Devendranagar and Rewa–Churhat sections represents an important development for railway connectivity in Madhya Pradesh’s Vindhya region.
Beyond passenger transportation, the new infrastructure is expected to support freight movement, improve access to mineral resources, strengthen industrial supply chains and encourage tourism-related economic activity.
The expansion could also facilitate future industrial investments, including cement-related projects, while improving access to education and employment for residents.
With the launch of the Devendranagar–Churhat train service and the extension of the railway network into Sidhi district, the projects mark a significant step towards integrating previously underserved areas into the wider transport network. The long-term benefits will depend on the development of associated facilities, reliable train services and the effective utilisation of the new railway infrastructure.
