Central Hospital, North Central Railway, Organises Voluntary Blood Donation Camp in Prayagraj

Central Hospital of North Central Railway (NCR), Prayagraj, organised a voluntary blood donation camp on Thursday as part of Special Campaign 6.0 and the Indian Railways’ Swachhata Pakhwada campaign. The initiative was conducted in coordination with ANIHA Charitable Blood Bank, Prayagraj, to promote voluntary blood donation and encourage railway employees to contribute to community welfare.
The camp aimed to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood and highlight the social responsibility of healthcare professionals and railway employees towards patients who require blood transfusions during medical emergencies, surgeries and other critical situations.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr Rakesh Nigam, Medical Director of Central Hospital, North Central Railway, Prayagraj, and Dr Surendra Nath, Chief Medical Superintendent, NCR, Prayagraj. Their presence underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation as a humanitarian initiative and an essential component of community healthcare.
Women Doctors Lead by Example
Dr Manjulata Handeo, ACDS, and Dr Usha S. P. Yadav, ACHD, were among the first two women doctors to donate blood at the camp. Their participation encouraged other healthcare professionals and railway employees to come forward and support the initiative.
The participation of doctors highlighted the importance of leading by example, particularly in encouraging voluntary blood donation among people who may be hesitant or unaware of its significance.
Following their donations, participants were provided with refreshments and certificates of appreciation in recognition of their contribution to the humanitarian cause.
One of the donors expressed satisfaction at being able to help others through blood donation, saying that the opportunity to contribute directly to the community and support patients in need was deeply fulfilling.
‘Every Unit of Blood Can Help Save a Life’
Speaking about the importance of the initiative, Dr Usha S. P. Yadav, ACHD/Microbiology, emphasised that timely access to donated blood can make a critical difference in saving lives.
“Someone can live because someone donates. Sympathy alone cannot save lives in critical situations, but blood can. Every unit of blood donated can help save a life. This spirit of service inspired our employees to participate enthusiastically in the camp,” she said.
Her remarks highlighted the importance of maintaining an adequate blood supply through voluntary donations. Blood is required in a wide range of medical situations, including emergency treatment, major surgeries, accident cases and the management of certain serious illnesses.
Regular voluntary blood donation camps can help raise awareness, encourage repeat donors and strengthen the availability of blood for patients who need timely medical intervention.

Several doctors and staff members of Central Hospital, North Central Railway, were present during the programme. Those attending included Dr Kalpana Mishra, ACHD/NCR; Dr Mritunjay Kumar, ACHD/NCR; Dr S. S. Nayak, ACHOD; and other medical professionals and hospital employees.

The camp was organised through the efforts of Shri David Navin Tewari, Chief Laboratory Superintendent; Shri S. S. Shaw; Shri U. K. Bharti; Shri Pawan Keshri; and Smt Rekha. The laboratory team and indoor staff of Central Hospital, NCR, Prayagraj, also extended their support to ensure the successful organisation of the programme.

By bringing together medical professionals and railway employees, the initiative sought to reinforce the message that voluntary blood donation is a practical and meaningful way to support people in need.
The programme also reflected the broader commitment of North Central Railway employees to community welfare, public service and humanitarian values.
Through initiatives such as this camp, Central Hospital, NCR, Prayagraj, aims to encourage greater awareness of voluntary blood donation and inspire more people to participate in activities that benefit society.
