Railways to Run Superfast Special Trains Between Delhi and Kanpur to Clear Festive Rush
To accommodate the additional rush of passengers, Indian Railways has announced the operation of two pairs of Superfast Special trains between Delhi and Kanpur Central during September, October and November 2026.
The special services will operate on two routes — New Delhi–Kanpur Central–New Delhi and Anand Vihar Terminal–Kanpur Central–Anand Vihar Terminal. The trains will provide additional travel options for passengers travelling between Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh and Kanpur during the high-demand period.
The first pair, Train No. 02456/02455 New Delhi–Kanpur Central–New Delhi Superfast Special, will operate four days a week — Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The service will run from September 7 to November 30, 2026, with a total of 49 trips in each direction.
Train No. 02456 will depart from New Delhi at 7:45 am and reach Kanpur Central at 1:15 pm. On the return journey, Train No. 02455 will depart from Kanpur Central at 3:00 pm and arrive at New Delhi at 8:20 pm.
The train will halt at three stations between New Delhi and Kanpur Central — Aligarh Junction, Etawah Junction and Kanpur Central on the onward journey, with corresponding stops on the return journey.
According to the schedule, Train No. 02456 will reach Aligarh Junction at 9:52 am and depart at 9:54 am. It will arrive at Etawah Junction at 11:55 am and depart at 11:57 am before reaching Kanpur Central at 1:15 pm.
On the return journey, Train No. 02455 will leave Kanpur Central at 3:00 pm, reach Etawah Junction at 4:20 pm and depart at 4:22 pm. It will arrive at Aligarh Junction at 6:15 pm and depart at 6:17 pm before reaching New Delhi at 8:20 pm.
The second pair, Train No. 02458/02457 Anand Vihar Terminal–Kanpur Central–Anand Vihar Terminal Superfast Special, will operate three days a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
These services will run from September 8 to November 29, 2026, with 36 trips in each direction.
Train No. 02458 will depart from Anand Vihar Terminal at 8:20 am and reach Kanpur Central at 1:15 pm. On the return journey, Train No. 02457 will depart from Kanpur Central at 3:00 pm and reach Anand Vihar Terminal at 8:10 pm.
The Anand Vihar–Kanpur special will also halt at Aligarh Junction and Etawah Junction. The train is scheduled to reach Aligarh at 9:52 am and depart at 9:54 am, followed by arrival at Etawah at 11:55 am and departure at 11:57 am. It will reach Kanpur Central at 1:15 pm.
For the return journey, Train No. 02457 will depart Kanpur Central at 3:00 pm, reaching Etawah Junction at 4:20 pm and departing at 4:22 pm. It will reach Aligarh Junction at 6:15 pm, leave at 6:17 pm and arrive at Anand Vihar Terminal at 8:10 pm.
Both pairs of special trains will have a combination of AC and sleeper-class accommodation, providing passengers with additional reserved travel options during the period of increased demand.
The introduction of these services is aimed at easing pressure on regular trains and providing additional capacity on the busy Delhi–Kanpur corridor. The services will also benefit passengers travelling to and from important cities and towns in western Uttar Pradesh.
Passengers have been advised to check the latest operational details, including schedules and availability, before travelling. Indian Railways has asked passengers to use the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) for updated train information or dial the railway enquiry number 139.
The special services are part of the Railways’ efforts to manage additional passenger demand by deploying extra trains on routes experiencing higher traffic. With the two pairs together providing 85 trips in each direction during the announced period, the additional services are expected to provide significant extra capacity between Delhi and Kanpur.
Passengers planning journeys during September, October and November are advised to make reservations in advance and verify the latest timings through official railway enquiry channels, as train schedules may be subject to operational changes.
