PM Modi Highlights 12 Years of ‘Garib Kalyan’, Says Welfare and Human Empowerment Remain at the Core of Governance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the achievements of his government over the past 12 years, emphasizing that the welfare of the poor and the empowerment of marginalized sections have remained at the heart of India’s development journey. Reflecting on a decade-plus of governance, the Prime Minister said that transformative initiatives aimed at improving the lives of millions have been guided by the principle of “Antyodaya” — ensuring that the benefits of growth reach the last person in society.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said India has undergone significant transformation over the last 12 years, with a strong focus on uplifting the poor, underprivileged, and those who had remained outside the mainstream of development for decades.
According to Shri Modi, the government’s welfare agenda has been driven by a commitment to provide dignity, opportunity, and basic amenities to every citizen. He noted that several flagship schemes launched during this period have played a crucial role in improving living standards across the country.
Among the key initiatives highlighted by the Prime Minister were the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ayushman Bharat. These programmes, he said, were designed to address long-standing challenges related to financial inclusion, sanitation, housing, drinking water access, and healthcare.
The Jan Dhan Yojana, launched to expand access to banking services, brought millions of previously unbanked citizens into the formal financial system. Similarly, the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism has enabled welfare benefits to reach beneficiaries directly, reducing dependence on intermediaries and ensuring greater transparency.
The Prime Minister also underscored the role of the Swachh Bharat Mission in improving sanitation and public health across rural and urban India. The housing programme under PM Awas Yojana has helped provide permanent homes to economically weaker sections, while the Jal Jeevan Mission has focused on delivering tap water connections to households across the country.
Healthcare reforms under Ayushman Bharat were also cited as a major step toward social security, providing financial protection and access to quality medical treatment for millions of families.
A significant aspect of the government’s welfare efforts, according to Shri Modi, has been the use of technology to improve service delivery and strengthen governance. He said digital platforms and technology-driven solutions have transformed the way welfare benefits are distributed, making the system more efficient, transparent, and accountable.
“Technology has played a vital role in ensuring a better quality of life for the poor,” the Prime Minister said, adding that digital governance has helped eliminate leakages and ensured that assistance reaches intended beneficiaries without delays or corruption.
He further noted that the widespread adoption of digital systems has strengthened public trust in governance by making government services more accessible and transparent. The integration of technology with welfare programmes has not only improved efficiency but has also empowered citizens by giving them direct access to benefits and services.
Highlighting the broader impact of these initiatives, Shri Modi said the journey of “Garib Kalyan” has evolved into a nationwide movement focused on human empowerment. He stressed that welfare measures are not merely about providing assistance but about creating opportunities that enable individuals and families to improve their lives and contribute to the nation’s progress.
The Prime Minister said these efforts are aligned with the vision of building a “Viksit Bharat” or developed India. By combining welfare initiatives, technological innovation, and inclusive growth, the government aims to ensure that development reaches every section of society and lays the foundation for long-term prosperity.
As the government marks 12 years of its welfare-focused initiatives, the Prime Minister reiterated that empowering the poor and ensuring inclusive development will continue to remain central to India’s growth story and its aspirations for the future.
