Railways Warn Pensioners Against Rising Cyber Fraud Attempts

Railway authorities have issued a strong advisory to pensioners, urging them to remain vigilant against a growing number of cyber fraud attempts targeting retired employees. The warning comes after reports that fraudsters are impersonating Railway officials through fake phone calls, SMS, and WhatsApp messages to extract sensitive personal and financial information.

According to officials, scammers are contacting pensioners under various pretexts, including updates to Pension Payment Orders (PPO), Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, and claims of additional pension benefits. These fraudsters often attempt to gain access to bank details, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), passwords, and other confidential data.

The Railways have categorically clarified that no official is authorized to seek such sensitive information through phone calls, text messages, WhatsApp, or social media platforms. Authorities emphasized that the Railways do not send any links or online messages requesting updates to PPOs or service records.

In the advisory, pensioners have been cautioned not to respond to unsolicited calls or messages seeking personal or banking information. Officials stressed that sharing such details could lead to financial loss and identity theft.

Railway administration has also appealed to pensioners to spread awareness among their family members, particularly elderly dependents who may be more vulnerable to such scams. Families have been urged to verify any suspicious communication before taking action.

In case of receiving any dubious call, message, or link, pensioners are advised to immediately report the matter to the Police Cyber Cell and inform the concerned Railway administrative office. Prompt reporting can help authorities track and prevent further fraudulent activities.

The Railways reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the interests of pensioners and urged retirees to exercise caution and stay alert against cyber fraudsters.
