Praveen Kumar, IPS Assumes Additional Charge as Director General of Border Security Force

Senior IPS officer Praveen Kumar officially took over the additional charge of Director General, Border Security Force (BSF) – the world’s largest border guarding force – with effect from today.
The 1993-batch Indian Police Service officer of the West Bengal cadre assumed the new responsibility following the superannuation of outgoing Director General Shri Daljit Singh Chaudhary, IPS, who retired today after an illustrious career.
Currently serving as Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Praveen Kumar will now simultaneously head both premier central armed police forces until a regular appointment is made to the BSF top post.

A veteran with over 32 years of distinguished service, Kumar has held a wide range of challenging assignments in West Bengal as well as on central deputation. Known for his operational acumen and administrative experience in border management and internal security domains, he is widely respected within the forces.
The BSF, with a strength of over 2.65 lakh personnel, guards India’s 6,300+ km land borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh besides performing critical counter-insurgency and internal security duties.
The Ministry of Home Affairs notified the additional charge arrangement today, ensuring continuity of leadership at the helm of the force that stands sentinel on some of the most sensitive and hostile international borders.
Officers and jawans of the BSF welcomed the new Director General, expressing confidence that his rich experience will further strengthen the force’s operational readiness and morale.
Praveen Kumar is expected to visit the BSF headquarters and forward formations in the coming days to take stock of border situations across all theatres
