Indian Railways Greenlights Survey for 72-Km New Rail Line: Marwar Junction to Devgarh Madaria Boosts Tourism and Trade

In a major push to expand its vast network, Indian Railways has approved the Final Location Survey (FLS) for a proposed 72-kilometer broad gauge (BG) line connecting Marwar Junction to Devgarh Madaria via Todgarh-Ravali in Rajasthan. The greenlit survey, under the North Western Railway (NWR) zone, marks a key milestone in enhancing connectivity across Rajsamand, Udaipur, and Pali districts, while bridging the gap between economic hubs like Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
Once the FLS wraps up, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be drafted, assessing financial and technical viability before seeking final nod from the Railway Board. This new alignment, visualized in detailed maps showing the green-marked route snaking through rugged terrains from Marwar Junction northward to Devaliya and beyond, promises to unlock remote areas teeming with heritage and natural allure.
The project arrives at an opportune time, dovetailing with ongoing gauge conversion efforts on the 82-km Nathdwara-Devgarh Madaria stretch, budgeted at ₹969 crore. That initiative will soon link the region directly to metros like Jaipur, Delhi, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai, slashing travel times and spurring economic activity.
Benefits abound: The line will ferry tourists to offbeat gems like Todgarh’s wildlife sanctuary and Devgarh Madaria’s historic forts, currently starved of reliable transport. For locals, it spells a boon for agriculture, trade, and small industries, integrating them into the national rail grid. “This corridor will not only revive forgotten routes but also catalyze sustainable growth in Rajasthan’s hinterlands,” an NWR official noted, highlighting the synergy with broader infrastructure goals.
As India’s rail odyssey accelerates—fueled by high-speed corridors and electrification drives—this modest yet vital extension underscores the focus on inclusive development. With surveys kicking off soon, expect the DPR by mid-2026, paving the way for construction. From Marwar’s junctions to Devgarh’s hills, the tracks of tomorrow are taking shape.
