IIT Delhi Partners with Hyundai Motor Group to Advance EV and Battery Research
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has entered into a strategic partnership with Hyundai Motor Group to drive research and development in Electric Vehicle (EV) and battery technology. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will focus on sustainable mobility solutions in India and beyond.
As part of the agreement, the Hyundai Center of Excellence (CoE) will be established at IIT Delhi, with involvement from two other prestigious institutions: IIT Bombay and IIT Madras. The initiative will focus on core areas such as battery performance optimization, electric vehicle integration, and energy-efficient systems. IIT Delhi will serve as the lead institution, coordinating research activities to address the unique challenges of India’s automotive ecosystem.
Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, highlighted the importance of linking academic research with industry needs to create impactful solutions for the future of transportation. He further emphasized that the new Centre of Excellence will support innovation in battery and EV systems, building on IIT Delhi’s successful Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART).
Hyundai Motor Group’s Senior Vice President, Naksup Sung, expressed excitement about collaborating with India’s top engineering institutions to cultivate a strong network of talent and drive future growth in the EV sector. Prof. Sachin C. Patwardhan, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Bombay, and Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean of ICSR at IIT Madras, also lauded the partnership, highlighting its potential to foster unique innovation and contribute to India’s EV mission.
This landmark collaboration sets a new standard for industry-academia partnerships, positioning IIT Delhi and Hyundai as leaders in the development of cutting-edge automotive technologies.
