NCGG Achieves Milestone: Trains 1000 Maldivian Civil Servants in Capacity Building Program

In a significant achievement, the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), an autonomous institution under the Government of India, has completed the training of 1000 civil servants from the Republic of Maldives. This accomplishment is in line with the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between NCGG and the Civil Services Commission of Maldives, covering the period from 2019 to 2024.

The culmination of this endeavor was marked by the successful conclusion of the 32nd capacity-building program conducted by NCGG in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs. The one-week program, held from February 5th to February 9th, 2024, saw the participation of 40 educationists from Maldives.

The partnership between NCGG and the Civil Services Commission of Maldives was initiated during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Maldives in 2019. Despite challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, NCGG remained committed to its goal of enhancing the skills and capabilities of Maldivian civil servants.

Over the past five years, senior officials from various sectors of the Maldivian government, including Permanent Secretaries, Secretary Generals, and Deputy Permanent Secretaries, benefitted from the capacity-building programs. These programs provided insights into India’s flagship initiatives, particularly in technology adoption and governance.

NCGG tailored its training modules to address the specific needs of the Maldivian participants, covering a wide array of topics such as e-governance, digital India, public service universalization, and disaster management. Additionally, participants were exposed to field visits, offering them firsthand experiences of prominent Indian developmental projects and institutions.

The exposure to initiatives like Smart City projects, healthcare institutions like AIIMS, and heritage sites including the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar enriched the learning experience of the Maldivian civil servants.

Through these capacity-building efforts, NCGG and the Indian government have contributed to strengthening the administrative capabilities of Maldives, fostering closer ties between the two nations.
