Historic Decision: CAPFs Constable (GD) Exam to be Conducted in 13 Regional Languages

In a landmark move, the Constable (GD) examination for recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will now be conducted in 13 regional languages, alongside Hindi and English. This significant decision aims to enhance local youth participation in CAPFs and promote regional languages.

Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced the inclusion of 13 regional languages in the Constable (General Duty) examination, effective from January 1, 2024.

The regional languages in which the examination will now be conducted include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri, and Konkani. This expansion aims to provide equal opportunities to candidates across linguistic backgrounds.

With around 48 lakh candidates expected to participate, the examination will take place from February 20 to March 7, 2024, across 128 cities nationwide. This initiative marks a significant step towards inclusivity and accessibility in the recruitment process for CAPFs.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC), responsible for conducting the Constable (GD) examination, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Home Affairs to facilitate the inclusion of regional languages. Accordingly, SSC has issued notifications to conduct the exam in the aforementioned languages.

The decision is expected to empower lakhs of youth to take the exam in their mother tongue or regional language, thereby increasing their chances of selection. This move aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for employment across the nation.

Through this initiative, the Central Government has provided a golden opportunity for youth across the country to pursue a career in the service of the nation through the CAPFs. By conducting the Constable (GD) examination in regional languages, the government aims to tap into the diverse talent pool and strengthen national security forces with personnel proficient in their native languages.
