Indian Railways Approves Two New MEMU Services Connecting Meerut with Khurja and Saharanpur
Indian Railways has approved the introduction of two new MEMU services connecting Meerut City with Khurja and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at strengthening regional rail connectivity and providing additional travel options for passengers across the two routes.
The approved services will operate as Train Nos. 64573/64574 Khurja–Meerut City MEMU and 64580/64579 Saharanpur–Meerut City MEMU. Both services will provide commercial stoppages at all stations en route, allowing passengers from smaller towns and railway stations along the sections to benefit from the new services.
The introduction of the MEMU trains is expected to improve daily connectivity with Meerut City, an important railway hub in western Uttar Pradesh. The services will connect Meerut with passenger destinations towards both Khurja and Saharanpur, providing additional options for commuters and other travellers.
Khurja–Meerut City MEMU
The first service will connect Khurja and Meerut City. Train No. 64573 Khurja–Meerut City MEMU will depart from Khurja at 1:15 PM and arrive at Meerut City at 5:20 PM.
The train will cover the route in approximately 4 hours and 5 minutes. With commercial stoppages at all en route stations, the service will provide connectivity to passengers travelling between Khurja, intermediate stations and Meerut.
In the reverse direction, Train No. 64574 Meerut City–Khurja MEMU will depart from Meerut City at 11:25 AM and reach Khurja at 4:00 PM. The scheduled journey time will be approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes.
The two-way service is expected to provide greater flexibility for passengers travelling between Meerut and Khurja and stations located along the route.
Saharanpur–Meerut City MEMU
The second approved MEMU service will connect Saharanpur and Meerut City, providing an additional rail option on an important regional corridor.
Train No. 64580 Saharanpur–Meerut City MEMU will depart from Saharanpur at 5:50 AM and arrive at Meerut City at 8:10 AM. The scheduled journey time is 2 hours and 20 minutes.
The morning service will provide an additional option for passengers travelling towards Meerut from Saharanpur and intermediate stations.
In the return direction, Train No. 64579 Meerut City–Saharanpur MEMU will depart from Meerut City at 5:45 PM and reach Saharanpur at 8:40 PM, covering the journey in approximately 2 hours and 55 minutes.
Like the Khurja–Meerut service, the Saharanpur–Meerut MEMU will also have commercial stoppages at all en route stations.
Additional Regional Connectivity
The two MEMU services will expand rail travel options across western Uttar Pradesh and strengthen connectivity centred on Meerut City. By serving all stations along the respective routes, the trains are designed to benefit passengers travelling not only between the terminal stations but also between smaller intermediate locations.
MEMU trains are particularly suited to short- and medium-distance regional travel because they can provide frequent services with multiple station stops. The new services will therefore offer passengers an additional option for daily and regional journeys.
The Khurja–Meerut corridor will gain a new direct MEMU connection with services operating in both directions, while the Saharanpur–Meerut corridor will receive an additional morning service towards Meerut and an evening return service towards Saharanpur.
The approval of these two services represents an expansion of passenger connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, with Meerut City serving as a key connecting point between the Khurja and Saharanpur sides of the region.
