Passenger Carriage by Domestic Airlines Soars by 42.85% in Spectacular Growth
The overall cancellation rate of flights has been only 0.47%
India’s domestic airline industry has experienced a remarkable surge in passenger numbers, with the latest traffic data revealing a record-breaking figure of 503.92 lakhs. This represents a substantial annual growth rate of 42.85% when compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, which recorded 352.75 lakhs passengers.
The surge in passenger numbers is a testament to the resilience and robustness of India’s aviation industry, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and provide convenient travel options for citizens. The significant increase in passengers demonstrates a growing demand for air travel and showcases the positive trajectory of the aviation sector.
Moreover, the month-on-month (MoM) growth rate between April 2022 and April 2023 has reached an impressive 22.18%. This sustained momentum underscores the collective efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in cultivating a safe, efficient, and customer-centric aviation ecosystem.
In addition to the commendable growth in passenger numbers, the overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic flights for April 2023 remained astoundingly low, standing at only 0.47%. Additionally, the number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried in April 2023 was remarkably low, at approximately 0.28. These achievements are the result of meticulous planning, operational efficiency, and proactive measures implemented by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and airlines, which have ramped up their operations despite the two-year slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. These efforts aim to ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers.
Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, expressed his satisfaction with the industry’s growth, stating, “The concerted efforts of all stakeholders have played a pivotal role in driving the expansion of the aviation sector and establishing India as a global aviation hub. We are delighted to witness the steady growth of the domestic airline industry, which not only strengthens our economy but also connects people across the country. The Ministry remains committed to creating a conducive environment for the aviation industry to flourish and will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate sustainable growth while ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and passenger satisfaction.”
