Active Western Disturbance Expected to Impact Northwest India from 23rd to 26th May, 2023

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding an active Western Disturbance that is set to affect Northwest India from the evening of 23rd May to 26th May, 2023. On 24th May, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and south Haryana will also receive heavy rainfall.

Hailstorms are forecasted at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh on 23rd and 24th May, Uttarakhand from 23rd to 25th May, Punjab, and Haryana on 24th May, and West Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan on 24th and 25th May.

The region of Rajasthan is likely to experience duststorms and thunderstorms with gusty winds ranging from 40-50 kmph from 23rd to 25th May, 2023. South Rajasthan can expect strong surface winds with speeds of 25-35 kmph during the same period.

It is advisable to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms. Safe shelters should be sought, avoiding taking shelter under trees.
