Ashwini Vaishnaw Interacts with Passengers at Anand Vihar Railway Station, Reviews Passenger Facilities
Railway Minister Seeks Direct Feedback from Youth, Women and Families on Railway Services; Promotes Digital Payments During Informal Tea Stall Visit

During the inspection, Vaishnaw met passengers from different age groups and enquired about their journeys, travel experiences and satisfaction with the services available at the station. He sought their feedback on the improvements in railway infrastructure, passenger convenience and other facilities introduced by Indian Railways.
The minister’s interaction was aimed at assessing the effectiveness of railway arrangements from the passengers’ perspective rather than relying solely on official reports. By speaking directly with travellers, he sought to understand how various initiatives and modernisation measures were translating into improvements in the day-to-day travel experience.

Several passengers reportedly expressed appreciation for the improvements in railway amenities and the modernisation initiatives undertaken by Indian Railways. They conveyed their satisfaction with the ongoing efforts to upgrade railway stations and improve facilities for passengers.
Informal Interaction with Youth, Women and Children
The visit also featured informal and friendly interactions between the Railway Minister and passengers. Vaishnaw warmly greeted young travellers, encouraged youth through gestures of appreciation and interacted affectionately with children.
He was seen patting young passengers on their backs as a gesture of encouragement and exchanging handshakes with children. The interactions created a welcoming atmosphere at the station and provided passengers with an opportunity to communicate their experiences directly to the minister.
The engagement with different categories of passengers highlighted the importance of understanding the requirements of diverse traveller groups. While young passengers may have expectations related to modern facilities and digital services, women, senior citizens and families often place greater emphasis on safety, accessibility, cleanliness and convenience.
Such direct interactions can help railway authorities identify gaps in service delivery and understand passenger expectations more effectively. Feedback received during these visits can also provide useful inputs for improving station management and passenger-oriented infrastructure.
Railway Minister Promotes Digital India Through UPI Payment
In another notable moment during the visit, Vaishnaw stepped away from the formal inspection schedule to visit a tea stall at Anand Vihar Railway Station. He enjoyed a cup of tea and made the payment through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), highlighting the growing adoption of digital payment systems in everyday transactions.
The gesture also reflected the increasing integration of digital payment facilities into India’s railway ecosystem. UPI has emerged as an important component of the country’s digital transformation, enabling convenient and cashless transactions for consumers and small businesses.
By making a digital payment at a station tea stall, the minister highlighted how technology is becoming part of routine activities, including purchases at public transport facilities.
Focus on Passenger-Centric Railway Development
The visit to Anand Vihar Railway Station comes amid Indian Railways’ continuing efforts to modernise railway infrastructure, improve passenger amenities and strengthen station management across the country.
Anand Vihar is an important railway terminal in the Delhi region, handling passengers travelling to several destinations, particularly in eastern and northern India. Passenger convenience, crowd management, station facilities and smooth movement are therefore important aspects of its operations.
Direct engagement with passengers allows railway leadership to obtain first-hand information about the effectiveness of existing arrangements and identify areas requiring further attention.
The minister’s interaction underlined the importance of passenger feedback in railway administration, with an emphasis on making modernisation efforts more responsive to the actual needs of travellers.
The visit also conveyed a message that railway development is not limited to constructing modern stations and introducing new technology, but must ultimately translate into a safer, more comfortable and convenient journey for passengers.
