Indian Railways Surpasses Key Targets Under Special Campaign 6 Ahead of October 31 Deadline

Rail Jan Samvaad Conducted at 5,884 Railway Stations to Gather Passenger Feedback on Cleanliness, Amenities and Service Delivery

Indian Railways has surpassed several key targets under Special Campaign 6, which is being implemented from October 2 to October 31, 2026, as part of the government’s Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM-6). The campaign has recorded significant progress in cleanliness, scrap disposal, e-waste management, the disposal of pending matters and simplification of administrative processes.

With the campaign scheduled to conclude on October 31, Indian Railways is focusing on consolidating its achievements and ensuring that the best practices introduced during the drive continue beyond the deadline. The initiative aims to improve workplace efficiency, optimise resource utilisation, strengthen cleanliness practices and enhance the quality of services delivered to passengers.

Rail Jan Samvaad Held at 5,884 Railway Stations

A major highlight of Special Campaign 6 was the nationwide organisation of Rail Jan Samvaad on October 22, 2026, at 5,884 railway stations. The initiative was designed to facilitate direct interaction between railway officials and passengers, enabling the national transporter to gather feedback and suggestions on cleanliness, passenger amenities and service delivery.

The programme provided a platform for passengers to highlight issues affecting their travel experience and suggest measures to improve facilities at railway stations. The feedback is intended to help railway authorities identify local-level problems and take appropriate follow-up action to address passenger concerns.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board, Satish Kumar, interacted with stakeholders in New Delhi as part of the initiative. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) participated in the programme at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai.

The extensive participation across railway stations reflects the emphasis being placed on passenger engagement and responsive service delivery. By seeking feedback directly from railway users, the initiative seeks to strengthen communication between passengers and the railway administration.

Focus on Cleanliness and Efficient Resource Management

Cleanliness remains one of the major focus areas of Special Campaign 6. Indian Railways has undertaken activities to improve the upkeep of railway premises and promote more efficient management of available resources.

Scrap disposal and e-waste management have also emerged as important components of the campaign. These activities are aimed at clearing unused materials, improving the utilisation of available space and ensuring more systematic handling of discarded equipment and electronic waste.

Efficient disposal of scrap can help railway establishments maintain cleaner workplaces and make better use of operational space. Similarly, improved e-waste management supports the responsible handling of obsolete electronic equipment generated across the railway network.

The campaign also places emphasis on identifying and disposing of pending matters that require administrative attention. Timely resolution of such cases is expected to improve the efficiency of railway offices and reduce the accumulation of unresolved issues.

Administrative Reforms and Process Simplification

Alongside cleanliness and waste management, process simplification has been another key area of activity under SCDPM-6. The initiative encourages railway establishments to review existing procedures, eliminate avoidable delays and improve the overall efficiency of administrative operations.

The disposal of pending matters is intended to help officials focus on current responsibilities while ensuring that outstanding cases receive timely attention. These measures are particularly important for an organisation as large as Indian Railways, which manages an extensive nationwide network and serves millions of passengers.

The campaign’s broader objective is to promote a more organised, efficient and accountable working environment across railway offices and establishments.

Sustaining Achievements Beyond October 31

As Special Campaign 6 approaches its conclusion on October 31, Indian Railways is concentrating on maintaining the progress achieved during the month-long exercise. The focus is on ensuring that improvements in cleanliness, resource management, administrative efficiency and passenger services become part of routine working practices.

The Rail Jan Samvaad initiative has also highlighted the importance of incorporating passenger feedback into efforts to improve railway facilities and service delivery.

By combining administrative reforms with public engagement, Indian Railways aims to strengthen operational efficiency while responding more effectively to passenger expectations.

The campaign’s final phase will focus on consolidating achievements and sustaining effective practices, ensuring that the benefits of the initiative continue after its formal conclusion.
