Secretary MoHUA Visits Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, Inaugurates Solar Power Plant at Ghaziabad Station
Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), visited the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor today. The corridor is India’s first RRTS project, and Katikithala was welcomed by Shalabh Goel, Managing Director of NCRTC, and senior NCRTC officials at the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station.
During the visit, Katikithala reviewed preparations for the commencement of passenger operations in the Delhi section, where extensive trial runs are currently underway. He appreciated NCRTC’s approach in integrating RRTS stations with existing transport modes using foot-over bridges (FOBs), lifts, and escalators, ensuring seamless commuter transitions.
The Secretary also inaugurated a rooftop solar power plant at the Ghaziabad RRTS station. With a peak capacity of 1 MWp, this is NCRTC’s largest solar installation to date, supporting its vision of sustainability. The plant contributes to the 4-MWp solar capacity already generating significant CO2 reductions.
Katikithala took a ride on the Namo Bharat train, experiencing the commuter-friendly features, including dedicated spaces for medical transit needs. He praised the project’s focus on women-led development, with many station operators and controllers being female.
Katikithala was also briefed on the cutting-edge technologies, including ETCS-2 signalling and Building Information Modelling (BIM), being implemented in the RRTS corridor. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut section, covering 42 km, is now operational with nine stations, including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, and Meerut South.
