Indian Railways Achieves Record Freight Loading of 887.24 MT in October 2023

In a remarkable achievement, Indian Railways has reported a significant increase in its freight loading figures, reaching 887.24 million tonnes (MT) by the end of October 2023. This achievement represents a substantial rise of 31.6 MT when compared to the corresponding period last year.

The railways have also seen a commendable surge in revenue from freight loading during April to October 2023, earning an impressive Rs 95,929.30 Crores. This marks an increase of Rs 3,584.03 Crores compared to the same period in the previous year.

In the month of October 2023, Indian Railways managed to load 129.03 MT of freight, displaying an improvement of 8.47% over the same period last year. This success is indicative of the railways’ commitment to enhancing its cargo operations.

On a cumulative basis, from April to October 2023, Indian Railways achieved a total freight loading of 887.25 MT. This marks a substantial improvement of approximately 31.61 MT over the corresponding period last year. Additionally, the railways earned a revenue of Rs 95,929.30 Crores, surpassing the Rs 92,345.27 Crores earned during the same period last year, representing an increase of approximately Rs 3,584.03 Crores.

During October 2023, the railways excelled in various categories, loading 64.82 MT in Coal, 14.81 MT in Iron Ore, 5.74 MT in Pig Iron and Finished Steel, 6.32 MT in Cement (excluding Clinker), 4.77 MT in Clinker, 3.62 MT in Foodgrains, 5.72 MT in Fertilizers, 4.35 MT in Mineral Oil, 7.15 MT in Containers, and 8.55 MT in other miscellaneous goods.

This remarkable achievement can be attributed to Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing ease of doing business, improving service delivery, and ensuring competitive pricing. Their customer-centric approach, bolstered by Business Development Units and agile policy-making, has played a pivotal role in attaining this significant milestone.
