To check the spread of COVID-19, Delhi Division of Northern Railway has taken many initiatives to create awareness amongst passengers and its employees. Some of them are frequent announcements on the Public Address System at Railway stations, training of cleaning staff as well as employees at Railway stations in disinfecting and sanitizing the points of passenger contact, objects that come in contact with multiple passengers such as doors, windows, snack tables, chains, handrails of stairs, lift buttons and seating chairs etc. Necessary personal protective equipment such as gloves, face masks and sanitizers are being given to the staff.

Awareness campaigns are also being conducted by pasting and distributing pamphlets related to prevention and precautions against corona virus to the travelling public. Workshops of anti-infective/quarantine procedures to be followed for hygiene by sanitary inspectors and sweepers working at railway stations are also being organised. Disinfectant is being sprayed at Railway Offices and work places over Delhi Division.

Fumigation and disinfection in all the coaches including pantry cars are being done. Outside washing of coaching rakes in every trip is being done with high pressure jet machine and cleaning agents for their thorough cleaning. Intensive cleaning inside the coaches is also being done. Points of passenger contact and vulnerable areas such as latches, window sill, hand rails, main door, toilets are being given special emphasis. Seats and berths are being cleaned and disinfected. Counselling of on board cleaning staff (OBHS) about Do’s and Dont’s is being done to ensure cleanliness in the trains at all the times during journey: Regular cleaning of toilets, gangway areas, snack trays is being ensured.
Intensive cleaning from inside of all coaches of EMU/MEMU rakes external cleaning with high pressure jet machines along with their fumigation and disinfection is being ensured.

Pest control of coaches and depot premises including washing lines is being done regularly. Passenger Awareness Posters in Hindi and English containing the details of Corona Virus and Do’s and Don’ts have been pasted in coaches of trains of Delhi division.

Trains are being run by Loco Pilots and Guards all over Delhi division who are posted at different crew lobbies. In order to tackle the grim situation their biometric attendance has been suspended till further order. Delhi Division has undertaken many steps for them such as washing of hands with soap is made mandatory before entering the crew lobby, use of disposable straws for Breath Analyzer test at each lobby, provision of sanitizer at each lobby, no use of common pen at crew lobby and use of their on pen only. Loco sheds have also started disinfecting its locomotives by providing disinfectant on every surface, nukes & corners such as driver interface i.e. control desk, all switches and circuit breakers, seats, horns, hand rails etc.

S.C. Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi said that Delhi Division is fully committed in the war against COVID-19 and efforts are being made to sensitise the travelling public as well as employees regarding precautions to be taken for prevention of COVID-19.
