Third Edition of Snow Marathon to Take Place in Sissu, Lahaul on March 10

The third edition of the Snow Marathon is all set to take place in Sissu, Lahaul, on March 10, attracting participants from across the country to what is hailed as Asia’s only and the world’s highest snow marathon. The event, organized in collaboration with Reach India, Himachal Tourism, and the district administration, aims to put Lahaul on the global adventure map through the medium of the snow marathon.

Following the tremendous success of the first and second editions of the snow marathon, this year’s event promises to be even grander. Speaking at a press conference held at Hotel Di Rijs on Wednesday, Chief Organizer Rajeev Kumar, along with representatives from the tourism department, stated that all preparations for the event have been meticulously planned and executed.

It was highlighted that the Snow Marathon in Lahaul holds the distinction of being Asia’s only and the world’s highest snow marathon. The marathon, held annually in Sissu, situated at an altitude of nearly ten thousand feet near the north portal of the Atal Tunnel near Manali, attracts athletes and marathon enthusiasts from all corners of the country.

The marathon will feature four categories, including a full marathon of 42 kilometers, a half marathon of 21 kilometers, as well as races of ten and five kilometers. Additionally, a fun run will also be organized to pique the interest of local residents and enhance their enthusiasm for the snow marathon.

Rahul Thakur, the deputy commissioner of Lahaul and Spiti, expressed his confidence in the successful organization of the event, emphasizing the unwavering support received from the district administration. He reiterated the commitment to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the event’s success and showcasing Lahaul on the global adventure sports map.

In attendance was also Dr. Arun Kauchar, a senior cardiologist from Fortis Hospital, who expressed his excitement at being associated with such a unique event. He emphasized the importance of athletes adhering to the advisory provided to tackle high-altitude sickness effectively.

The event has garnered support from Fast and Up as the nutrition partner, Bon as the energy partner, and YoungGear and Gokyo as the awards partners, further adding to the grandeur of the snow marathon in Lahaul.
