Railways Unveils Upgraded Interiors for Next-Generation Amrit Bharat Coaches

In a significant step towards enhancing passenger experience, the Ministry of Railways has unveiled upgraded interior designs for the next-generation Amrit Bharat coaches. The Railway Minister inspected sample coaches featuring the proposed interiors and colour schemes at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday.

The newly designed coaches showcase a modern and thoughtfully curated interior aimed at improving comfort, safety, and overall travel ambience. Officials stated that the redesign focuses not only on aesthetics but also on durability and passenger convenience, marking a major upgrade in non-AC long-distance travel.

One of the key highlights of the upgraded coaches is the introduction of distinct and coordinated interior colour themes. These themes have been carefully applied across multiple components, including PVC flooring, seat and berth rexine, snack tables, curtains, and even lavatory spaces. The unified colour palette provides a visually appealing and consistent look throughout the coach, offering passengers a more pleasant journey experience.

Railway officials emphasized that the choice of materials has been made with both safety and longevity in mind. All fittings and furnishings used in the coaches comply with stringent HL3 fire safety standards, which are among the highest benchmarks for fire resistance in railway systems. This ensures enhanced passenger safety, especially during long-distance travel.

In addition to safety, ease of maintenance has been a core consideration in the design process. The materials used are not only durable but also easier to clean and maintain, which is expected to improve hygiene levels onboard. The upgraded interiors are also designed to withstand heavy usage, making them suitable for high-capacity routes.

The initiative aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision of modernising its rolling stock and upgrading passenger amenities across all categories of trains. Over the past few years, Indian Railways has been actively working on introducing new-generation trains and refurbishing existing coaches to meet evolving passenger expectations.

Officials noted that the Amrit Bharat coaches are primarily targeted at providing improved travel facilities for non-AC passengers, a segment that constitutes a significant portion of railway users in the country. By introducing better interiors and enhanced safety features, the Railways aims to bridge the gap between affordability and comfort.

The redesigned coaches also reflect a shift towards creating a more world-class travel environment, even in economy segments. With improved lighting, refined finishes, and better layout planning, the coaches are expected to offer a more relaxed and enjoyable journey.

The inspection of the sample coaches marks an important milestone before large-scale production and deployment. Railway authorities are likely to incorporate feedback from this stage to further refine the design and functionality of the coaches.

This move is part of a broader push by Indian Railways to transform passenger experience through innovation, better design, and enhanced safety standards. The upgraded Amrit Bharat coaches are expected to be introduced in phases, bringing a new level of comfort and modernity to millions of passengers across the country.
