Maldives Tourism Association Strongly Condemns Offensive Remarks Against Indian Prime Minister

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has issued a stern condemnation against derogatory comments made by certain Deputy Ministers on social media platforms. The comments were directed towards the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the people of India.

Emphasizing the longstanding close relationship between the Maldives and India, MATI expressed deep gratitude for India’s consistent support and immediate response during various crises in the history of the Maldives. India has been a steadfast ally, contributing significantly to the recovery efforts of the Maldives’ Tourism Industry, particularly during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

India, being one of the Maldives’ closest neighbors, has played a vital role in the success of the Maldivian tourism sector. The Indian market has remained a top contributor, aiding the Maldives in its recovery efforts post border reopening.

MATI underscored the importance of maintaining the enduring relationship between the two nations for generations to come. As a demonstration of this commitment, MATI urged refraining from any actions or speech that could potentially have a negative impact on the strong and positive relationship shared between the Maldives and India.
