Major Milestones Achieved in Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project: 100 km of Viaducts Ready

The ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor project has marked a significant milestone with the completion of 100 kilometers of viaducts, showcasing the rapid progress of this cutting-edge transportation initiative.

Key Highlights:

  1. Timeline and Construction Progress:
    • The construction timeline for the viaducts is as follows:
      • Launching of the First Girder: November 25, 2021
      • Completion of the First kilometer of Viaduct: June 30, 2022 (6 months)
      • Completion of 50 kilometers of Viaduct: April 22, 2023 (10 months)
      • Completion of 100 kilometers of Viaduct: Achieved in just 6 months from the 50-kilometer mark.
  2. Innovative Construction Techniques:
    • The project achieved the 100 km viaduct milestone through the use of advanced construction techniques, including the Launching of 40 m long Full Span Box girders and Segmental Girders.
    • The Full Span Launching technique (FSLM) involves launching 40 mtrs long box girders using state-of-the-art equipment. This technique is 10 times faster than the conventional Span by Span method, commonly used in metro viaduct construction.
  3. Pier Work Completion:
    • Alongside the viaducts, 250 kilometers of pier work have also been successfully completed for the MAHSR project.
  4. Rivers and Bridges:
    • The viaducts include bridges over six rivers in Gujarat: Par (Valsad district), Purna (Navsari district), Mindhola (Navsari district), Ambika (Navsari district), Auranga (Valsad district), and Venganiya (Navsari district).
  5. Noise Barriers and Track System:
    • The installation of noise barriers has commenced on the constructed viaducts, emphasizing the project’s commitment to minimizing environmental impact.
    • The laying of the first Reinforced Concrete (RC) track bed for the MAHSR corridor track system, inspired by the Japanese Shinkansen, has begun in Surat. This marks the introduction of the J-slab ballastless track system in India for the first time.
  6. Tunnels and Steel Bridges:
    • The breakthrough of the first mountain tunnel of 350 meters has been successfully completed in Valsad district, Gujarat.
    • A significant achievement includes the erection of the first steel bridge, measuring 70 meters in length, in Surat district, Gujarat. This marks the commencement of the construction of the 28 steel bridges planned for the MAHSR corridor.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is poised to revolutionize inter-city travel in India, showcasing not only advanced engineering but also a commitment to sustainable and efficient transportation systems.
