Major Gold Smuggling Operation Foiled by CISF at Mumbai Airport

In a significant breakthrough, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) successfully intercepted and seized smuggled gold bars weighing approximately 1.864 kilograms, valued at around INR 1 crore, at Mumbai Airport on December 11, 2023.

The operation unfolded during a routine security sweep at the Baggage Break up Area (BBA), Terminal-2, Mumbai Airport, around 0300 hrs. CISF personnel from the Security Operations Control Centre (SOCC) observed suspicious behavior by Akshay Kule, an outsourced Indigo loader affiliated with Agile Airport Services, in the BBA area.

Acting swiftly on their suspicions, CISF officials meticulously reviewed CCTV footage of the BBA area, revealing Kule’s involvement in pilfering smuggled gold from the check-in baggage of an incoming flight. Upon confirming their findings, CISF promptly alerted senior officers and Customs officials.

Following the alert, CISF personnel, in collaboration with Customs officials, conducted a thorough search of the area and examined Kule’s belongings. Their investigation uncovered 16 gold bars concealed in Kule’s bag, weighing approximately 1.864 kilograms and estimated to be worth INR 1 crore.

Subsequently, the apprehended loader, along with the seized gold bars, was handed over to the Airport Intelligence Unit (AIU) and Customs officials for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This successful interception underscores the vigilance and rapid response of CISF personnel, demonstrating their commitment to identifying and thwarting criminal activities within the secure confines of the airport premises.
