Loaded Goods Train Derails in Panvel-Kalamboli Section, Disrupting Rail Services
Panvel-Kalamboli, September 30, 2023 – A loaded goods train bound for Vasai derailed in the Panvel-Kalamboli section of the Mumbai division today at 15:05 hrs. Preliminary reports indicate that four wagons and a brakevan have derailed, causing significant disruption to rail services in the region.
The train, identified as JSWD/MGN BRN, was transporting steel and iron coils when the incident occurred. In response to the derailment, an Accident Relief Train (ART) has been dispatched from Kalyan and Kurla, while a road ART has been sent from Panvel to the accident site. Restoration efforts are expected to commence shortly.
Several mail express trains have been detained at various stations due to the derailment:

- 15065 Gorakhpur-Panvel Express – Detained at Kalamboli
- 12619 LTT-Mangluru Express – Detained at Thane
- 09009 Mumbai Central-Sawantwadi Express – Detained at Taloja Panchanand
UP Trains:
- 20931 Kochuveli-Indore Express – Detained at Somathane
- 12617 Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Express – Detained at Somathane
The derailment has affected the UP line (Panvel to Diva direction), while the DOWN line (Diva to Panvel direction) remains unaffected. Down mail express trains, including 15066 Express, 12619 Express, and 09009 Express, are expected to depart from their detained stations shortly.

- DN 12125 CSMT Pune Pragati Express – Diverted via Kalyan-Karjat-Lonavala route (instead of its regular route of Panvel-Karjat-Lonavala route).
Restoration work is currently underway at the accident site, with DRM/Mumbai and other officers on-site to oversee the operation. Out of the 59 wagons of the goods train, 54 have been cleared from the accident site and brought to Kalamboli goods yard, while five derailed wagons (including four wagons and one brakevan) remain at the accident site.

- 15066 Panvel-Gorakhpur Express – Diverted via Panvel-Karjat-Lonavala-Pune-Daund-Manmad-Bhusawal route (instead of its regular route of Panvel-Kalyan-Igatpuri-Manmad route).
