Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme (JFROPS) Decides to Initiate Direct Action
In response to the government’s lack of action regarding the restoration of the Defined Guaranteed Old Pension Scheme in place of the National Pension System (NPS), the Core Committee of the Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme (JFROPS) convened at the AIRF office, located at 4 State Entry Road, New Delhi.
The meeting, chaired by the General Secretary of All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) and attended by various key stakeholders, including representatives from different trade unions, deliberated upon the prevailing situation extensively. After thorough consideration, it was unanimously decided that direct action is imperative to address the issue.
The Core Committee, comprising representatives from various constituent organizations, including AIRF, National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR), Indian National Defence Workers’ Federation (INDWF), All India Power Engineers’ Federation (AIPTF), and All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF), among others, has resolved to serve an Indefinite Strike Notice on March 19, 2024. The indefinite strike is scheduled to commence on May 1, 2024, coinciding with International Labour Day.
All constituent organizations have been urged to take necessary steps and make preparations to serve the strike notice to their respective administrations effectively.
The decision to resort to direct action comes in light of the government’s failure to respond to the demands for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, indicating a collective stance by trade unions to pursue their demands vigorously.
