J&K Launches “Gyanodaya Express – College on Wheels” to Revolutionize Education

In a groundbreaking initiative, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the “Gyanodaya Express – College on Wheels” from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Railway Station, Katra. This pioneering mobile educational endeavor, the first of its kind in Jammu Kashmir, is designed to empower approximately 700 girl students from various Universities in the Union Territory.

Educational Pilgrimage:

The “Gyanodaya Express” aims to dissolve the boundaries of classrooms and streams, providing immersive, collaborative, and project-based learning experiences. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s life, the initiative draws parallels to his epic train tour that awakened society with universal values of Satya and Ahimsa, Truth and Non-Violence.

Journey of Self-Discovery:

For students, the “College on Wheels” represents a journey of self-discovery, offering a lifetime opportunity to explore diverse regions, cultures, and new aspects of life and wisdom. The train journey is envisioned as a transformative experience, transcending the present form of knowledge.

Collaborative Learning:

During the journey, students will collaborate on different subjects, fostering cooperation and teamwork. This unique educational pilgrimage will strengthen transdisciplinary education and provide hands-on knowledge for new research. The itinerary includes visits to centers of excellence such as the Indian Navy, ISRO, and Sabarmati Ashram.

Alignment with National Education Policy:

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, “Gyanodaya Express” seeks to shift the paradigm from job seekers to job creators, promoting idea incubation, innovation, and skill development.

Holistic Understanding:

Beyond academic pursuits, the initiative aims to provide students with a holistic understanding of the areas they visit. It serves as a catalyst for personal growth, innovation, and national unity.

The flag-off ceremony saw the presence of Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman, J&K Higher Education Council, and Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu. IRCTC has collaborated with the Higher Education Council, J&K Government, for the execution of “College on Wheels.”

Innovative Learning Resources:

A handbook on “College on Wheels” and a publication on the “Design Your Degree” program were released during the event, emphasizing the innovative and experiential nature of the project.

“Gyanodaya Express – College on Wheels” is set to embark on a transformative journey, fostering hands-on learning, cultural exploration, and personal development for students across cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Goa. The carefully chosen destinations will provide insights into the life of Mahatma Gandhi, enriching the educational experience.
