Inauguration of India’s Largest Sports Science Centre at Kalinga Stadium: A Game-Changer for Athlete Development

Bhubaneswar, December 11, 2023: In a groundbreaking move to elevate India’s sporting prowess, Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, unveiled the country’s most advanced Sports Science Centre at Kalinga Stadium today. This collaborative venture with Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist, signifies a significant leap in the integration of science and sports.

The cutting-edge facility, designed in consultation with experts, caters to a diverse range of athletes and aims to be a premier hub for injury management, rehabilitation, recovery, and performance enhancement. With accessibility for elite athletes nationwide, this Sports Science Centre stands as a beacon for excellence.

The facility boasts specialized laboratories, including the Para-Athlete Performance Lab, Biomechanics Lab, Altitude Training Chamber, Cryotherapy, and flotation therapy. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik emphasized the importance of merging science with sports, stating, “Science has to be integrated with sports to give the winning edge to our sportspersons.”

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Patnaik remarked, “The establishment of this Sports Science Centre marks a pivotal milestone in our commitment to nurturing sporting talent. By integrating top-notch equipment and expertise, this Centre will serve as a catalyst for our athletes’ growth, enabling them to achieve their fullest potential.”

The facility stands as a testament to Odisha’s dedication to fostering sporting excellence, featuring state-of-the-art equipment and incorporating global best practices. A team of experts, including bio-mechanists, sports scientists, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, psychologists, nutritionists, sports masseurs, and nurses, ensures a holistic approach to athlete well-being and development.

A particular focus on para-athletes is evident, with custom-designed equipment addressing their unique needs. The incorporation of revolutionary technologies such as anti-gravity weight-bearing, sensory deprivation, and cryogenic therapy is set to expedite recovery, ensuring a swift return to the field.

Dignitaries present at the inauguration included Chairman 5T & Nabin Odisha, V K Pandian, Sports & Youth Services Minister, Odisha, Tusharkanti Behera, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, and Sports Secretary, Odisha, Vineel Krishna.
