Central Railway (CR) Achieves Significant Milestone in Expanding Rail Network

Wardha – Nagpur, November 4, 2023 – Central Railway (CR) has marked an impressive achievement in enhancing India’s rail infrastructure with the completion of 147.77 kilometers of multitracking, including new lines, doubling, and 3rd/4th lines, during the current fiscal year, from April 2023 to the present day. With a planned allocation of 3886.95 Crores for new lines, doubling, 3rd/4th lines, and an expenditure of 2983.47 Crores already made, CR is making substantial progress in railway development.

Among the notable projects, the Wardha – Nagpur 3rd/4th line project stands out with a total length of 78.70 kilometers. As of the latest update, 34.59 kilometers of this line have been commissioned, leaving 44.11 kilometers still in progress. The project has made significant strides, with the 3rd line being 72% complete and the 4th line at 70% completion, and the total cost of the project estimated at 1177.97 Crores, with an expenditure of 1035.92 Crores incurred so far.

In terms of specific project sections:

A) The Khapri – Sindi section, spanning 34.59 kilometers, has reached 43.95% completion. B) The Sindi – Seloo Road and Khapri – Ajni sections, covering 27.14 kilometers, are near completion, with a 34.48% progress. C) In the Seloo Road – Wardha and Ajni – Nagpur sections, totaling 16.97 kilometers, work is underway and has achieved 21.56% completion.

Land acquisition for this project has been almost entirely completed, with 99.50% of the required 38.858 hectares secured, leaving only 0.04 hectares to be acquired.

The progress in various aspects of the project includes:

  • Earthwork, including blanketing, at 66% completion.
  • Important bridges at 100% completion.
  • Major bridges at 83% completion.
  • Minor bridges at 48% completion.
  • Station building at 28% completion.
  • Track linking at 44% completion.
  • OHE (Overhead equipment) Foundation at 25% completion.
  • OHE Mast erections at 24% completion.
  • OHE Wiring Track kilometers at 25% completion.
  • Signalling Electronic Interlocking at 30% completion.
  • Signalling Indoor and Outdoor works at 30% completion.

The successful completion of the Wardha – Nagpur 3rd/4th line section will play a pivotal role in enhancing train mobility and alleviating congestion on the busy Mumbai-Howrah route, contributing to the overall growth and efficiency of the railway network in the region.
