Breaking Weather Update: Low Pressure Area Intensifies in the Bay of Bengal, Triggering Heavy Rainfall in Tamil Nadu

In a recent meteorological development, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area initially located over Southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal has shifted and now hovers over Westcentral and adjacent areas of Eastcentral and south Bay of Bengal as of 0530 hours IST on November 15, 2023. The associated cyclonic circulation has extended to upper tropospheric levels, prompting weather experts to closely monitor its trajectory.

Forecasters predict that the system is likely to move in a west-northwest direction, gaining strength and evolving into a Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal within the next six hours. Subsequently, it is expected to continue its northwestward path and may intensify further into a Deep Depression off the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16. The system is anticipated to then recurve north-northeastwards, reaching the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast by November 17.

As a consequence of this weather system, Tamil Nadu has experienced significant rainfall in various regions from 08:30 IST on November 14, 2023, to 05:30 IST on November 15, 2023. The recorded rainfall in millimeters is as follows:
