President of India commends Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University’s unique identity in higher education and research at 12th Convocation in Baripada, Odisha

Addressing the graduating students, the President said that receiving degree does not mean that education process has been completed

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the 12th convocation of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University at Baripada, Odisha on May 6, 2023. In her address, the President praised the university for its unique identity in the field of higher education and research, achieved in a short span of time.

The President also lauded the university for establishing the ‘Sacred Grove’ on its campus, aimed at preserving the bedrock of tribal practices and cultural traditions. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives for the conservation of the environment and local biodiversity, and cited it as an example of community-based management of natural resources.

The President highlighted the global challenges of climate change and global warming, and commended India’s adoption of a nature-friendly lifestyle called Lifestyle for the Environment or LiFE. She also pointed out that the Similipal National Park located in the region holds a globally important place in terms of biodiversity, and expressed confidence that the students and teachers of the university would find a way to protect biodiversity through their research and innovation.

Addressing the graduating students, the President emphasized that education is a continuous process and urged them to think beyond just finding a job. She commended the university for setting up an Incubation Centre and providing assistance to students, alumni and common people in setting up start-ups.

The President also spoke about the inevitability of competition in life but highlighted that cooperation is the beautiful side of life. She urged students to think not only of their own happiness and interest but also about the welfare of society and country. She advised students to hold the hands of deprived ones and bring them forward, and emphasized that a healthy society can be built through generosity and cooperation.

The President’s address inspired the students and faculty members of the university, who expressed their gratitude for her presence at the convocation. The event was a memorable one, filled with moments of inspiration and hope for a better future.
