Major Expansion Project Underway at Pune Station to Accommodate Longer Trains

In a significant development aimed at enhancing railway infrastructure and accommodating longer trains, Pune Station is undergoing a substantial expansion project. The project, which comes with a price tag of Rs. 51.85 crores, is currently 30% completed, marking a crucial step towards improving rail services in the region.

Project Scope and Highlights:

A) Scope of Works:

  1. Extension of platforms No. 2, 3, and 6 to accommodate 24-coach LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) and 26-coach ICF (Integral Coach Factory) length trains.
  2. Removal of six double diamond switches of tracks to facilitate smoother rail operations.
  3. Conversion of Platform No. 3 into the UP Main line for efficient train movement.
  4. Transformation of Platform No. 4 into the Down Main line to optimize rail traffic.
  5. Construction of two full-length goods train holding lines positioned between Platform No. 1 and 2 to streamline freight operations.

B) Completed Works:

  1. Extension of Line No. 6 into the new washing siding (located at the Mumbai end of the station).
  2. Connection of Line No. 8 to the new washing siding (also at the Mumbai end).
  3. Successful completion of 300 meters of track length siewing.
  4. Packing work for 1 km of track length finished.
  5. Completion of 125 track welding works.
  6. The contract for Overhead Equipment (OHE) wire has been awarded.
  7. Shifting of signaling data logger and fuse alarm is in progress to create space in the relay room for upcoming modifications.

Upon the completion of this ambitious project, Pune Station will be better equipped to handle the increasing demand for train services, particularly accommodating longer 24-coach LHB and 26-coach ICF trains. The extension of platforms and track enhancements will improve train mobility and significantly reduce congestion at the station, ensuring a smoother and more efficient rail experience for passengers and freight operators alike.
