Railway Protection Force Disrupts Illegal Software and Raises Awareness on Stone Pelting

RPF organized several drives to create awareness among public about the consequences of stone pelting

In April 2023, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched a month-long special drive across India to address two major challenges to railway security. The primary objective was to combat the activities of criminals involved in touting, including the illegal sale of railway e-tickets. Additionally, the RPF aimed to tackle the growing problem of stone pelting incidents, which posed a serious threat to the safety of passengers.

During the special drive, RPF personnel conducted thorough inspections at railway stations, reservation counters, and online platforms to detect and apprehend unauthorized ticket booking agents. They also took the opportunity to educate the public about the risks associated with purchasing tickets through unauthorized channels, emphasizing the importance of using legitimate means. These efforts resulted in the disruption of over 42 illegal software operations and the subsequent arrest of 955 individuals involved in the development, distribution, and sale of such illicit software.

Furthermore, the RPF noticed a concerning rise in stone pelting incidents targeting running trains, endangering the safety and security of passengers. In response, the RPF collaborated closely with local authorities, including Gram Panchayats, schools, settlements along the railway tracks, and colleges, to raise awareness about the severe consequences of stone pelting. The RPF launched awareness campaigns through newspapers, distributing notices, pamphlets, and leaflets among the public. In conjunction with these awareness initiatives, the RPF implemented measures such as increasing personnel deployment at vulnerable locations, providing train escorts, and cracking down on trespassers. These efforts resulted in the apprehension of 2773 individuals under the Railways Act. The RPF also conducted special coordination meetings with police, intelligence agencies, and other law enforcement bodies, leading to the arrest of 84 individuals involved in stone pelting offenses.

The success of this month-long special drive highlights the RPF’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of railway passengers and infrastructure. Moving forward, the RPF will continue to undertake similar initiatives to strengthen security measures throughout India’s extensive railway network.
