Historic Moment: Railway Appoints First Female Chairman – Jaya Verma Sinha Assumes Role as Chairman & CEO of Railway Board

In an unprecedented and groundbreaking move, the Indian Railways has scripted history by appointing its first-ever female Chairman. Jaya Verma Sinha, an accomplished member of the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), has been officially designated as the new Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, marking a significant milestone in the railway’s leadership landscape. This historic appointment follows Jaya Verma Sinha’s tenure as Member (Operations and Business Development) within the Railway Board.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued a proclamation, underscoring the significance of this decision. Jaya Verma Sinha, a seasoned professional with a robust background in the IRMS, has been entrusted with the leadership of the Railway Board until August 30, 2024. Her exemplary service trajectory commenced with the Exam Batch of 1986, where she diligently contributed to the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), culminating in her attainment of the esteemed rank of Higher Administrative Grade Plus (HAG+).

Jaya Verma Sinha’s dynamic career trajectory within the railway sector has been characterized by her steadfast commitment and invaluable expertise.
