Enhanced Rainfall Activity Expected in Gujarat and Himalayan Foothills

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted an increase in rainfall activity over specific regions of India in the coming days. According to the IMD, Gujarat state is likely to experience enhanced rainfall from July 7th to 9th, while the foothills of the Himalayas and adjoining plains can expect increased rainfall from July 9th to 12th.

Furthermore, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is predicted to continue over central India until July 9th, after which a decrease in rainfall activity is anticipated. Along the west coast of India, there will be a reduction in rainfall activity starting today.

In the past 24 hours, several regions across the country have witnessed significant weather conditions, including heavy to very heavy rainfall. Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Assam & Meghalaya were among the areas that experienced heavy rainfall.

The IMD has provided weather observations and significant rainfall data for the past 24 hours, highlighting the impact of heavy rainfall in various regions.

The weather forecast for the next five days indicates light to moderate widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in different parts of the country. South India will experience continued rainfall, but with a significant reduction after 24 hours. West India, including Konkan & Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, will have ongoing rainfall for the next 24 hours, while Gujarat state can expect rainfall for the next four days, with isolated extremely heavy falls on July 8th in Saurashtra & Kutch.

Northwest India will witness light to moderate widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall expected over Uttarakhand from July 7th to 9th, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on July 8th and 9th, Punjab and Haryana on July 8th, and Uttar Pradesh on July 10th and 11th.

Central India will experience light to moderate widespread rainfall for the next two days, followed by a reduction in rainfall activity. In East India and the adjoining northeast region, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted in specific areas.

The IMD has provided agromet advisories for different parts of the country, suggesting actions to be taken due to heavy rainfall. The advisories include draining out excess water from crop fields, postponing rice transplanting and sowing in certain regions, and taking precautions to avoid flooding and damage to vulnerable structures.
