IIT Delhi signs MoU with USA’s Open Health Systems Laboratory for setting up an International Centre of Excellence on Computational and Biomedical Sciences

OHSL to contribute Rs 10 Crores for CoE as initial funding

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, recognised by the Govt. of India as an Institution of Eminence, has entered into an agreement with Open Health Systems Laboratory (OHSL), USA to set up an International Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Computational and Biomedical Sciences with an initial funding of Rs 10 Cr from the OHSL.

The objective is to build a global team science consortium by leveraging the best of biomedical informatics to address key questions of biomedical sciences.

The major areas that will be addressed are integration of Ayurveda and Western medical sciences for cancer biology and therapy, reconfigurable computing, systems biology approaches for cancer, drug development and discovery etc.

The CoE is being setup on the above areas at IITD, with a view towards bringing together excellence in knowledge and expertise for the advancement of cutting edge scientific research.

The research activities of the CoE will be initiated with the initial funding from the OHSL. In addition to the initial funding, IIT Delhi and OHSL will jointly seek funding from national and international resources.

The MoU was signed by Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi and Mr Anil Srivastava, President, OHSL, USA on 9th February 2020.

Prof. B.R. Mehta, Dean R&D, IIT Delhi mentioned that there is a large scope for interaction and collaboration with OHSL in the areas of Life Science, Ayurveda, Computational Biology.
Prof. Rao, IIT Delhi Director, in his remarks also stressed the importance of these emerging areas including the research on Ayurveda.

Welcoming the partnership, President OHSL, Mr Anil Srivastava also mentioned that both partners will benefit immensely with such collaborations and the CoE will be the natural culmination of the long association between IIT Delhi and the OHSL. The focus will be on international collaboration in multidisciplinary research areas.

The research activities undertaken through this MoU will make best utilisation of already existing Infrastructure, expertise and vast experience of both the collaborating partners.
