Narendra Modi Elected as Leader of BJP Parliamentary Party: President Approves Appointment as Prime Minister
This follows a significant development earlier in the day, where a delegation representing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by J. P. Nadda, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), met with the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 2:30 PM. The delegation submitted a formal letter, affirming the election of Narendra Modi as the Leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. Additionally, letters of support from various constituent parties of the NDA were presented to the President.
The delegation comprised prominent leaders from various political parties, including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Dr. C.N. Manjunath from the BJP; N. Chandrababu Naidu from the Telugu Desam Party; Nitish Kumar, Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), and Sanjay Jha from the Janata Dal (United); and several others.
Upon reviewing the letters of support and considering the majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha, the President exercised her constitutional powers under Article 75(1) and appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India. Following this appointment, the President requested Narendra Modi to provide details regarding the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan and to recommend other members for appointment to the Union Council of Ministers.
