Unfortunate Incident of Fire on 13th Floor of New Koilaghat Building, Eastern Railway in Kolkata
In an unfortunate incident, a fire broke out on the 13th floor of New Koilaghat Building, 14, Strand Road, Kolkata – 700001 in the evening on 8.3.2021 at about 6.00 p.m.
RPF & other Railway staff immediately rushed to the 13th floor and evacuated most of the staff present there. At the same time, fire brigade was also informed about the incident.
The fire brigade reached the incident site at around 6.30 p.m. and started operation to control the fire. Railway officers & staff guided the fire brigade to reach the incident site.
Senior officers of Railway also rushed to the site and took stock of the situation and guided RPF & other officials present there for better coordination with the fire brigade and State officials.
The fire was brought under control by 11.00 p.m.
During the course of rescue operation, one Railway staff Shri Utpal Acharya, SSE/Con/S&T/NKG suffered injuries and admitted to B R Singh Hospital, Sealdah.
But, unfortunately the Railway lost one officer & one staff alongwith some fire brigade & police personnel. Paratha Sarathi Mandal, Dy. Chief Commercial Manager/Database and S. Sahani, Constable, RPF lost their lives.
Eastern Railway condoles the death of Railway officials and other officers & staff of State Government who sacrificed their lives.
Eastern Railway has ordered a High Level Enquiry into the incident which will be headed by Chief Safety Officer, Dr. Jaideep Gupta.
